Topic of Lesson: Topic of Lesson: Welcome Back/”Elliptical”; “Fences”
Objective: Students will analyze “Elliptical” and “Fences” through annotations
in order to answer test questions.
Activities: Students will read and annotate “Elliptical” and “Fences”. Then will
begin a 14-question multiple choice quiz before moving on to the 4
short answer questions.
Assessments: Multiple-choice test and short answer test
Assignments/HW: Finish annotations and most of multiple-choice test
Materials: PowerPoint, Word documents, Nearpod

Tuesday
Topic of Lesson: Topic of Lesson: “Elliptical”; “Fences”
Objective: Students will analyze “Elliptical” and “Fences” through annotations
in order to answer test questions.
Activities: Students will finish the 14-question multiple choice quiz before
moving on and completing the 4 short answer questions.
Assessments: Multiple-choice test and short answer test
Assignments/HW: Finish multiple-choice test and short answer questions
Materials: PowerPoint, Word documents, Nearpod

Wednesday

Objective: Students will analyze “First They Came…” and respond to
comprehension questions in order to prepare for an argumentative
writing practice.
Activities: Open CommonLit and read the story while making annotations and
guiding questions. Then respond to the assessment questions.

Assignments/HW: Finish questions and annotations if not completed during the class
period

Thursday
Topic of Lesson: Topic of Lesson: “I am Not an Inmate…”
Objective: Students will analyze “I am Not an Inmate…” and respond to
comprehension questions in order to prepare for an argumentative
writing practice.
Activities: Open CommonLit and read the story while making annotations and
guiding questions. Then respond to the assessment questions.

Friday
Topic of Lesson: Topic of Lesson: Argumentative Writing Practice
Objective: Students will use their readings from the week to practice writing parts
of an argumentative essay.
Activities: Students will receive an argumentative writing prompt for both “First
They Came…” and “I am Not an Inamte…”. They will choose
whichever one they prefer and write an introductory paragraph that
answers to the prompt of their choice. Then they will participate in a
class discussion board on Nearpod.
Assessments: Introductory paragraph for an argumentative essay
Assignments: Intro paragraph and participation in group discussion
Materials: PowerPoint, Nearpod, CommonLit, Word
