3er Parcial - Predicting the future

Descripción de la clase y actividades:

In English there are two expressions that are commonly used to express the future tense.

Most of the newcomers to English tend to confuse when and why one expression or another is used.
Although in some cases both phrases can be used, there are some basic rules that will help you
differentiate when it is more appropriate to use will or going to.

When to use Will

The verbal expression will is used when talking about a spontaneous decision, predictions based on
probabilities, personal perceptions, making promises, asking for something or conditional phrases.

•Spontaneous decisions:This point refers to the decisions that a person makes from one moment to
another, without prior planning, but that arise according to circumstances, for example:

I am hungry; I will eat cereal. (I`m hungry; I`ll eat cereal)

•Predictions based on probabilities: This expression is also used when we want to refer to something that
could happen, but that is not a certainty:

Mary and Kevin are in love, they will merry. (Mary and Kevin are in love, they will marry)

•Personal perceptions:
It is also used to express what an individual thinks or believes regarding a situation:

I think Adam will come later because he is busy. (I think Adam will come later because he`s busy)

•Promises:It is used to promise something in the future, either directly or indirectly:

I will go to the party, believe me. (I`ll go to the party, believe me)

•Requests:This expression is used when we want to ask something kindly:

Will you take me to my home, please? (Would you take me home, please?)

•Conditional phrases:
when we condition a future action with if , will is used :

If I have time, I will do that work for you. (If I have time I will do that job for you)

Affirmation, negation, and interrogation with will

Now that we know when to use will, it is necessary to learn how to structure sentences in their different
forms.

Doing so is actually very simple, you just have to follow the formula corresponding to each type of
sentence.

•Affirmative formula:
Página: 1/2
Subject + will + verb + complement. Example:

I will go to the bakery. (I`ll go to the bakery)

•Negative formula:

Subject + will not + verb + complement. Example :

I will not call Laura. (I won`t call Laura)

•Interrogative formula:

Will + subject + verb + complement. Example:

Will Marinnette arrive soon? (Is Marinnette coming soon?)

Activity:Think about the promises you`ve made since you were a child, the predictions you`ve made like
when you thought your best friends would get married. Write a list of at least 15 promises and predictions
that you have made so far. Remember to use Will. Ponderation 10%

Activity:Tell a classmate about some of your predictions, use a social network, and have him share his with
you. Talk about which ones have come true and which ones were not. Take photographic evidence and
upload it. You could even make more predictions between you. Ponderation 10%

Aprendizajes esperados:
