1. What are instructional materials?


 Instructional materials refer to the supporting materials used by the teachers in
facilitating and teaching the students. In the context of English subject, teacher has
several instructional materials that he/she can utilize like PPT Presentation for
presenting his/her lecture, dictionaries, grammar books, pictures, films or videos.
Furthermore, these materials can deliberately increase motivation to understand the
content of the lesson among the students. For example, my topic is about the Fall of
Troy, I could use a film adaptation of Fall of Troy to help students fully grasp and
anticipate the scenes happened during that time.

2. What are the different types of Instructional Materials. Give at least 2 examples for
each. Define and describe its usage.
a. Printed Materials – these are written materials that could serves as
supplementary or evaluation materials for students.
 Handouts – these materials can use by the students to further the
understand the lecture of his/her teacher. These will serve as a
supplementary readings or information for the students. This can be given to
the students beforehand to have a new topic. This is suitable for literature
course to provide students short information about the story they will read.
 Worksheets – these materials are use as an evaluation by the teacher. The
teacher can use this at the end of his/her lecture to assess student
achievement. There are many worksheets you could find online about
various English topics. Often, this material is uses to assess prior student’s
understanding about grammar specially about subject-verb agreement.
b. Audiovisual materials – these are materials wherein both sense of hearing and
sense of sight are being used.
 Films – most of the literature or stories from English course has numerous
film adaption especially if it is about Mythology. This material can be used by
the teacher to present visually the scenes happened in the story. However,
the downside of using this material is that it is time consuming.
 Interactive video – this material is often short videos. This could use by
English teacher to sum up his/her discussion. There are several short videos
online to present to the students to further sum up the lecture and this could
help them to have a long-term memory of the discussion.
c. Non-Projected materials – these are visual display that can be shown to the class
without use of electronic equipment
 Chalkboard/Whiteboard – this could be use by the teacher to allow the
students as a whole to have a brainstorm regarding the project he/she could
give.
 Flipcharts – these materials are usually use by the teacher to enable student
assimilate what is being put across to them. This is a good teaching aid for
English teacher spelling if she/he type of teacher who wants to present a
graphic organizer to easily grasp by the students.
3. How will these instructional materials be advantageous on your way of teaching?
 These teaching aids are helpful in teachers because aside from it supports
teaching facilitation of the teacher, this also supplement or complement what the
teacher omitted. These materials could also use to cater the students learning style.
Most of the students now are often want different instructional materials because
they are easily bored. Through these various materials, it is easier for the teacher to
perform his/her teaching style that complements to the learning styles of the
students. Additionally, these materials help the teacher to achieve the goals or the
objectives of the lesson.
