DISCUSSION

In this experiment, we use capture recapture method to determine the population size.
A portion of the population is captured, marked, and released. Later, another potion will be
captured and the number of individuals within the sample counted. From the data obtained,
we have capture 38 number of rice on the first capture. All of the rice was marked and put
back into the bowl. On the second capture, the total number of rice we have capture is 56.
There were 4 rice was marked from the first capture and the rest was not.

The formula to estimate of total population size was shown below :

M xC
N=
R
N = Estimate of total population size

M = number of rice on the first capture

C = number of rice on the second capture

R = number of rice that have been recaptured on second visit

By using the formula given, the estimate of total population size is 532.

The capture recapture method should be done in larger study area to get the real
population size of animals. However, this experiment cannot be done outside because of the
COVID-19 pandemic. So we need to do the experiment by using the rices in a bowl which is
not suitable to determine the estimation of population size.

CONCLUSION

As a conclusion, the estimation of population size can be determine by using capture

recapture method. However, it is more efficient if it can be done in larger study area such as
paddy field.
