 DIVERGENT
Synopsis:
The main protagonist (Beatrice Prior) lives in a society that the characteristic traits of the people
is divided into five factions. As each person enters adulthood, he or she must choose a faction
and commit to it for life.

Plot:
In the distant future of dystopian Chicago, the founders of the city divided their city into five
factions—Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor ( the honest), Dauntless ( the
brave), and Erudite (the intellectual/intelligent) and the remaining population or other people
who has no status or any privilege in the society are called the “factionless”. Whenever a child
turns the age of 16, they will undergo a serum-induced psychological aptitude test which will
indicate their best suited faction, but they get to decide whether they want to stay with their
family or abandon them through the subsequent Choosing ceremony.
As Beatrice Prior originates from the selfless (Abnegation) faction, but chooses to pursue a
career with the brave “Dauntless” clan. The initiate’s commitment and fearlessness are
immediately tested and a brutal Dauntless leader named “Eric” makes it clear that anyone not
meeting the high expectations of a Dauntless will be expelled from the faction to become
factionless. Beatrice is the first one to volunteer for a leap of faith from a tall building into a dark
hole that lands into a net. When “Four”, An instructor ask her name and Beatrice decided to
shorten her name to “Tris” as to thinking that she can leave her earlier identity behind. After a
while, Tris finds herself drawn toward the instructor while learning the plot by conspiring, power
hungry politician Jeanine to violently overthrow a discordant sect.
The background music when an upcoming breathtaking scene is coming blends with the music
that they compacted, the astonishing feeling of something rushing you to do the right thing takes
you into new different of insight of the world that you were in. As though you can relate to it
through the music only.

Therefor for the special effects, it captivates all effects especially to the scene that they will go
on the “serum test”, the way that effects portray what your most fears inside your head and how
they described in detailed it amazes me that special effects like that is wholesome, it makes you
wonder that what if it could be turn into reality.

The Editing in this movie will really make you curious, the way that the production set the
scenes is logically arranged. It will pick your interest of why Tris is endangered for being a
Divergent.

Additionally, the script that is used in the movie really characterize of how the lines should be
acted in the given context, it’s an amazing experience to be able to see the leads being acted as
they supposed to be. The movie is based on a book so its inevitably catchy and unquestionably
fascinating.

Overall, the move itself is indeed a masterpiece, it may seem like it’s very predictable and cliché
and you may compare it to some other movies like “Hunger games” such, but don’t judge the
book by its cover, Divergent is much more on what it is in the outside. It will made you realize
on what society we had today and what we could have done if we take care of our own people
and treat them with equity not equality. It’s a must watch movie due to the fact that this movie is
like an eye opener on our own society and how we treat one another, it will really open your eyes
seeing ang learning how the factions work and it will catch your interest of what kind of faction
you belong to, and what strengths that you have as a person.

The overall evaluation of the film for me is 9.5/10
