MATH
APPLICATION OF MEASUREMENT OF AREA

A DepEd-BEAM Distance Learning Program supported by the Australian Agency for International Development
To the Learner

Hello! My dear learners. You are here again to study and apply
the different formula in finding the measurement of the area. You will
learn to understand it as your work on several exercises.

Let’s Learn This

Do you still remember the formula in finding the area of a plane

figure? In solving of these, we have the formula to follow:

Area of Parallelogram = b x h
Area of a Trapezoid = ½ (b1 + b2 x h)
Area of a Circle = π x r²

Solve the following example:

Ramon has vegetable garden in their backyard. He planted it with
pechay and eggplant. The garden is in the shape of a parallelogram
with a base of 8 m and height of 6 m. What is the area of the garden?

Who planted vegetables in their backyard?

Will the family have an abundant supply of vegetables?
What do you get from eating vegetables?
Do you think Ramon’s family will be healthy? Why?

Let us analyze the problem:

What is asked in the problem?

 What are the given facts?
What is the formula in finding the area of a parallelogram?
What is the number sentence or the equation for the problem?

Let’s Try This

A. Solve the following problem:

1. A calamansi farm is in the shape of a trapezoid with the base of
18 m and an altitude of 10 m. Find the area.

2. Find the area of a bulletin board which is parallelogram in shape

with a base of 4 m and a height of 3.5 m. Find the base in the
height.

3. A = 43 sq. m. 4. A = 891 sq. m 5. A = 587.92 sq.

h = 4.61 m b = 37.125 cm m
b = _______ h = _______ b = 24.91 m
h = _______

Let’s Study This

First and foremost in solving the problem especially when finding

the area of a certain figure, always familiarize the figure presented in
the problem, remember what you are going to use:
Area of Parallelogram = ½ (b1 + b2 x h)
Area of a Rhombus =bxh
Area of a Circle = π x r²

Let’s Do This

Solve and analyze the problem:

Mrs. Robles’ bathroom has a trapezoid form with the bases
5.5 m and 2.5 m and a height of 4 m. Find the area.

Let’s Do More

Solve the following problems:

1. Ana’s vegetables garden is in the shape of a parallelogram with a
base of 10.8 m and height of 9 m. Find the area of the garden.

2. Find the area of a cornfield with base 75 m and 65.5 m and a

height of 58.5 m. What is the area of the cornfield?

Let’s Remember This

To solve the problem, we have to follow the different steps:

 Understand the word problem.

 Think and analyze.
 Find what is asked.
Use the right formula for the given figure.

Let’s Test Ourselves

Solve and analyze the problem:

1. Ariel prepaid a rectangular seedbox measuring 8 m long and 4 m

wide. What is the area of the seedbox?

2. Mr. Garcia had a trapezoid field palnted with mongo. If field has
bases of 12 m and 15 m and a height of 7 m. What is the area of
the field?

3. Find the area of a circular pool where radius is 2m? Find its
diameter also.

4. Mr. Fernando has a fishpond in a shape of a parallelogram. If the

base is 6 and height is 3 m. What is the area of the fishpond?

5. Cris wanted to cover their sala with a floormat. If their

measurement is 300 cm long and 200 cm wide, how many
square meters of a floor mat were used?

Let’s Consider This

If your score is 8 - 10, congratulations! Keep up the good work.

You can now proceed to the next module.
If your score is 5 – 7, do another exercise.
If you got below 5, review the whole module.

 What is your score? ☺
