1.0 CODE OF ETHICS

- III.2.a : Engineers are encouraged to participate in civic affairs; career guidance for
youths; and work for the advancement of the safety, health, and well-being of their
community.
- I.6. : Engineers, in the fulfillment of their professional duties, shall conduct
themselves honorably, responsibly, ethically, and lawfully so as to enhance the honor,
reputation, and usefulness of the profession.
- II.1.d.: Engineers shall not permit the use of their name or associate in business
ventures with any person or firm that they believe is engaged in fraudulent or
dishonest enterprise.
- II.3.c : Engineers shall issue no statements, criticisms, or arguments on technical
matters that are inspired or paid for by interested parties, unless they have prefaced
their comments by explicitly identifying the interested parties on whose behalf they
are speaking, and by the existence of any interest the engineers may have in the
matters.

2.0 DISCUSSION

Assuming there is nothing illegal and according to the NSPE (National Society Professional
Engineering) code of ethics, I find that it is ethical for Engineer A to propose that in lieu of
immediate payment from the organization. First, under roman-3, 2-part a (III.2.a) it is clearly
stated that engineers are empowered to participate in civic affairs. Engineer A made a personal
voluntary charitable cash contribution to non-profit organization without asking for extra
payment which meet the NSPE code as long as there is no conflict of interest and also this
contribution is done legally. However, according to roman-2, 1-part d (II.1.d) and roman-1,6
(I.6), Engineer A should ensure that the non-profit organization does not involved in any
fraudulent or dishonest enterprise in order to maintain their profession reputation and
usefulness of the profession. On the other hand, referring to roman-2,3 part c (II.3.c) Engineer
A should not make any decisions in any non-paid changes or any services that exceed the
assigned budgeted amounts without informing the interested party in order to avoid any
unethical satiation.
3.0 CONCLUSION

Engineer A behaviors meet the NSPE code of ethics as the code encourages all engineers to
participate in civic activities in order to improve the society and well-being since there is no
illegal or fraudulent matter or any conflict of interest in addition to that Engineer A should ask
for consultation regarding any suspicious situation.
