2. EZ-Com SINGLE

As the name suggests, Single Mode is used to

take a single survey at a pre determined depth.

This is done by ‘Time Stamping’ and is the

quickest way to survey compared to the
‘Countdown’ method used by most low tech digital
and mechanical instruments.

and press OK.
3. EZ-Com MULTI

This method of surveying is used to take multiple survey readings at pre determined depth
intervals with out the need to retrieve the instrument and reset each time.

There are several ways to perform a MULTI survey as follows:

• IN & OUT – The EZ-Com is set to take readings as it is lowered INTO the borehole and then
OUT of the borehole as it is retrieved providing 2 x survey runs of data at the same depths.
NB: This method is good for confirming magnetic zones in the formation being drilled.

• IN & OUT SPLIT – This survey is run INTO the borehole as per the ‘IN & OUT’ method but
the survey depths are changed on the OUT survey to take survey readings in-between the
previous IN depths.
NB: This method is good for identifying directional trends in the borehole .

• REVERSE – This method is the quickest and involves releasing / pumping the instrument
down into the coring barrel and performing an OUT survey as the drill rods are retrieved.
NB: This method will not lengthen the time taken to trip the rods and should be used when
the opportunity arises to retrieve the BHA i.e. Bit Change.

4. Orientation Assembly
Casing and Hall Rowe Wedges

The EZ-Trac can be used to orientate BHA( Bottom Hole Assembly) such as
wedges and down hole motors. Orientating digitally reduces the incidence of
error as the BHA can only be ‘zeroed’ to TDC (Top Dead Centre).

Survey data is downloaded from the EZ-Com to a PC via the USB port. The EZ-Com is
seen as another drive i.e. ‘F Drive’ and when opened the three below folders will appear
on the PC screen.

Depending on the survey method open the corresponding folder and copy the survey
files to your PC.

Once copied to the PC the original files can be deleted from the below folders on the EZ-
