Salvation
Justification | Sanctification | Glorification
Part 2

Justification
Declared | Demonstrated

11/9/20

Just as with every

crucial aspect of
salvation, Satan has
provided a counterfeit
justification, by which
salvation is promised
but not delivered.

It is restricting justification to God's

declaration that we are righteous. In
other words, it is making half of
justification the whole gospel. Many
Christians believe that justification is
limited to pardon and forgiveness and
declaration alone.

What is the
second aspect of
justification?

"Not by works of righteousness which we have

done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by
the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the
Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly
through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being
justified by his grace, we should be made heirs
according to the hope of eternal life."

Titus 3:5-7

of the heart

When this washing and renewing have

been accomplished by Christ and the
Holy Spirit, then I am justified and
saved. There is more to justification
than being pardoned from past sins.

John 3:3

Justification experienced is the new

birth. The new birth does not follow
justification; it is justification.

11

"Therefore if any man be

in Christ, he is a new
creature: old things are
passed away; behold, all
things are become new."

2 Corinthians 5:17

What must
happen to the
"old man"?

13

"Knowing this, that our old man is crucified

with him, that the body of sin might be
destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve
sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead
indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through
Jesus Christ our Lord."

Romans 6:6,7,11

Romans
12:1,2

15

When the old man is

dead, sin is dead at
the same time.

OLD MAN – SIN

NEW MAN - RIGHTEOUSNESS

17

What if we listen
to the enemy after
the new birth?

"My little children, these things I write unto

you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we
have an advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous."

1 John 2:1

19

He does many things for us because

of His love and mercy which He
wishes He would not have to continue
to do, namely, to continually forgive
us for continued sinning.

20

We must never mistake

the mercy of God with
the plan of God.

21

“That ye put off concerning the

former conversation the old
man, which is corrupt according
to the deceitful lusts;”

Ephesians 4:22

22

“And be renewed in the

spirit of your mind;”

Ephesians 4:23

23

“And that ye put on the

new man, which after God
is created in righteousness
and true holiness.”

Ephesians 4:24

24

12
11/9/20

“Wherefore putting away

lying, speak every man truth
with his neighbour: for we are
members one of another.”

Ephesians 4:25

25

“Be ye angry, and sin not: let

not the sun go down upon
your wrath:”

Ephesians 4:26

26

13
11/9/20

“Neither give place to

the devil.”

Ephesians 4:27

27

“Let him that stole steal no more: but

rather let him labour, working with
his hands the thing which is good,
that he may have to give to
him that needeth.”

Ephesians 4:28

28

14
11/9/20

“Let no corrupt communication

proceed out of your mouth, but that
which is good to the use of edifying,
that it may minister grace unto
the hearers.”

Ephesians 4:29

29

“And grieve not the holy Spirit of

God, whereby ye are sealed unto the
day of redemption.”

Ephesians 4:30

"God's forgiveness is not merely a judicial act by which

He sets us free from condemnation. It is not only
forgiveness for sin, but reclaiming from sin. It is the
outflow of redeeming love that transforms the heart.
David had the true conception of forgiveness when he
prayed, 'Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a
right spirit within me.' Psalm 51:10.”

(Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing, p. 114)

31

"As the sinner, drawn by the power of Christ,

approaches the uplifted cross, and prostrates
himself before it, there is a new creation. A new
heart is given him. He becomes a new creature in
Christ Jesus God Himself is 'the justifier of him
which believeth in Jesus.' Rom. 3:26."

(Christ's Object Lessons, p. 163)

Current Christian theology says that

justification is being declared righteous,
and making righteous comes later, in
sanctification.

33

The Devil’s Trick

Even if the new birth experience is not
changing my life from the inside out,
I am still justified and saved.

The example of the prodigal son:

- He repented when he reflected upon the goodness of his father
- He confessed his sin when he arrived at his father’s house
- He trusted in the goodness of his father to forgive and make him
a servant but the Father restored him as his son
- No doubt he was washed before the robe was put on him (in the
light of Zechariah 3: The filthy garments are removed before
the clean robe is put on)
- He received forgiveness and as evidence his father placed his
best robe upon him
- He was restored to the family as a full fledged son
- Obedience to the father would now be rendered as a loving son
rather than a hired servant
