Describing problems 1
This section presents describing problems and complaints with past participles as adjectives, with
verbs.
Let's have a look at some examples:
The shirt is stained ( Stained is the past participle of the verb " to stain" used as an adjective to
describe what was wrong with the shirt.)
The jacket lining is torn.
Her sunglasses are little scratched.
The new aquarium is leaking ( here it is an exception to use the present continuous to describe the
problem)

Describng problems with nouns:


It has a stain on it.
It has a tear in it. ( meaning there is a hole in it)
There are a few scratches on them.
It has a leak in it.
Describing Problems 2 : Action taken ( what needs to be done)
Need+ passive infinitive
The car needs to be fixed.
The chair needs to be repaired.
The walls need to be painted.

Need+ gerund
The car needs fixing.
The chair needs repairing.
The walls need painting.

Keep+ gerund
Everything keeps burning.
The alarm keeps going off.

When you are describing problems
grammatically you can use past participle as
