NIKE JOINS THE #ENDSARS MOVEMENT.

SENSITIZE ∙ EQUIP ∙ ADDRESS

Abdul Abdulkareem, and two of his friends, were on their way home when they decided to quickly stop at
the store opposite Abdul’s house and buy some bread for the next day’s breakfast. Around 10pm, they
were stopped by SARS officers, without an explanation, and were forced into the SARS’ van. Later on,
they were thrown into a cell with twelve other people that they had picked up in a similar fashion. Abdul
and his friends were beaten and told to pay N20,000 ($53), which they did the next morning and were
released. [REF 3]

The #ENDSARS movement, birthed in 2017, was brought to light again this year after videos of the SARS
officers shooting and killing two young Nigerians on two separate occasions, emerged. The #EndSARS
protests which started based on police brutality, now include other complaints like corruption and
human rights violations in Nigeria [REF 1]. Nike has been following the movement and we understand
the movement’s reason, hence we embrace it for all that it stands for. Therefore, we also want to speak
up and condemn the abuse of power and ill treatment of Nigerians caused by the SARS group.

With that being said, we will be launching a project called, ‘NIKE JOINS THE #ENDSARS MOVEMENT’
where we want to; sensitize people and equip them with the right information so that together we can
address the injustice by SARS. This project, that has a 6 months duration, is for the public i.e. for the
people of Nigeria as well as for all other people who stand with Nigeria internationally. We hope to
reach as many people as we can; helping them understand what this movement is all about and to make
them more aware of their human rights and the laws that govern the nation, as far as the power of law
and enforcement goes. To carry out our project as effectively as we plan to, we have organized a
number of informative sessions at schools; in the villages; on the radio and television; and on all our
social media platforms, in an attempt to reach all people.

Therefore, we at Nike are calling on all leaders and influencers to join forces with us and the movement,
to stand up and speak out against these inhumane actions of SARS. Let us all be informed to inform
others so that we speak in solidarity. The future for a better Nigeria is in all our hands, by changing this
new ‘norm’ to one that we will be pleased to raise our children in.

Together we can… JUST DO IT.
