Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a
new strain of coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.
On 30 January 2020, the Philippine Department of Health reported
the first case of COVID-19 in the country with a 38-year-old female Chinese national. On 7 March, the first local transmission of COVID-19 was confirmed. WHO is working closely with the Department of Health in responding to the COVID-19 outbreak. Because of the increasing number of cases per day the government implemented community quarantine in some part of the Philippines. The big impact of this said disease to the social and economic life of Filipinos was seen and reported on news and all over the internet. Some Filipinos lose their job and faces the problem on how they can provide something to their family.Hunger is for them one of the reason why they tend to break some quarantine rules in their respective places.Furthermore, the increasing number of mortality were also one of the result of this disease.
Much more needs to be done to break the chain of COVID-19
transmission. Some of the challenges that the Philippines continues to face are containing transmission of infection and its impact to the life of Filipinos. As student leaders, we decided to conduct a fund- raising activity to help the government in our own way to provide some personal hygiene kits (alcohol), face mask, gloves, vitamins and foods to some of the families who were greatly affected by the pandemic.
It is an important activity for us student leaders. With the help of
some agencies like the Local Government Unit and some private organization we will be conducting this fund-raising through online activity, in this way we can still practice social distancing and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
