Aboriginal music is an important part of Australian Aboriginal culture and has been for a long time. It is used to tell stories and is connected to important cultural traditions and ceremonies. Aboriginal music does not typically use instruments like guitars or drums, but rather instruments unique to their culture like the didgeridoo, bullroarer, and gum-leaf. The music plays a role in storytelling, rituals, celebrations, and other significant events and helps Aboriginal people express their cultural identity.

Australian Aboriginal Music Good Morning/afternoon everyone. Today I will be speaking about Australian Aboriginal music and its culture, as well as their instruments. Aboriginal’s music is very important to them it is a part of their life, they had different types of music for every occasion. Aboriginal’s music has been with them for a long time, and still stays with them up until today. There are many topics I can speak about today on Aboriginal music. I will start on what type of genre connects with their music. Rock, roll, country, rap and hip hop, have all appeared at some point in traditional Australian music, commonly known as aboriginal music. Some other genres for the traditional music is world, and prehistoric music. Aboriginals also need instruments to create their music. To create the music, they don’t use normal instruments like, guitars, drums, tambourines, shakers or pianos. They have their own instruments, they include: the didgeridoo, bullroarer and the gum-leaf. All three instruments are Aerophones. The didgeridoo is typically played for ceremonial dancing and singing. The bullroarer is used in initiation ceremonies and in burials to keep away the bad spirits away. The gum-leaf is used to imitate bird calls and just to create some catchy tunes. Aboriginal music is important to them because it tells stories, such as the dreamtime. They had songs for every topic, for stories, animals, hunting, funerals, ancestors, seasons, myths and much more! The key features of Aboriginal music are: Clapping Sticks Didgeridoo Body Paintings Tribes Dance Rituals Dreamtime Corroborees As you can see now, aboriginal music is a huge topic and is very important to the aboriginals, they use it for many different occasions and it is a part of their Khadeja Elmasry 7A
