Good Ways on How to teach Language in Elementary Grades:

Man uses language to establish good relationship with others, to acquire and share information,
to convince, to persuade, and to communicate in various forms, his thoughts and feelings. Language is
therefore, man’s most potent tool.

Indeed, man’s development in and mastery of language, as exemplified in his proficiency in

listening, speaking, reading, and writing effectively, are his most important accomplishment and
equipment for self-actualization.

What really is LANGUAGE

- Language as a representation of man’s experience is highly individual. Its meaning differs from person
to person. It grows and changes. It is never static. It is a structured system arbitrary sounds and symbols
used in communication. Language is primarily speech. Writing is secondary.

The four modes of communication, namely: listening, speaking, reading and writing compose the areas
of communication arts. Skill in each area depends upon understanding of phoneme-grapheme
correspondence, lexicon, and syntactical structure of the language. The communication arts are
interrelated in developmental sequence.

Listening and speaking have reciprocal relationship because they are essentially phonological
skills.

Reading and Writing on the other hand are commonly based on the graphological structure of language
and are likewise reciprocal as communication skills.
