Grades
 The final grade for this course will be determined as
follows:
 Homeworks: 20%
 Quizzes: 20%
 Mid-semester exam: 20%
 End-semester exam: 40%
Attendance and Homework
 80% attendance is mandatory
 50% attendance for the day if late by more than 5 mins
 No attendance for the day if late by more than 10 mins

 Homeworks will be due in-class unless otherwise


specified
 Late submissions incur a penalty of 25% per day
 Lowest homework grade will be dropped before final grade is
computed
 You can discuss problems with your classmates, but the final
submission should be original, written by you in your own
words
Some definitions
 Theory of machines deals with study of relative motion of
parts of a machine, and forces acting between them

 Kinematics is the study of motion without regard to


forces
 specifically study of displacement, velocity and acceleration

 Dynamics is the study of forces and their effects on


systems in motion

 A mechanism transforms motion from one form to


another
