Social Media and Healthcare

Access to social media has been made very easy, and people can acquire new information

at any given time, notwithstanding where one is an. As a result, social media has become a

learning place where people learn new things, especially in health care. Nevertheless, the code of

ethics must be followed when using social media. Discussions on medical diagnoses on social

media should not be allowed, and this is mostly for medical professionals. Social media is an

excellent tool, mainly when used for educational purposes and networking. Sharing of patient's

personal information puts patients at jeopardy by damaging their images which goes against the

individual boundaries. Aiding by AHIMA code of ethics is critical since it will protect both the

employee and the patients. The patient's information will be safe and secure, whereas the

employees will keep their jobs. Doximity is a platform meant for physicians only to share

information and ideas but which are within the allowable limits by the HIPAA. Most of these

platforms will require personal information and credential of the physicians sharing information

on it. (Banja et al., 2020).

Peer 1 Response

I like how peer 1 has started the argument by stating that social media should be entirely

for information sharing amongst the medical professions. However, you also explained that the

information should be guided by the codes and conducts given by the HIPAA. This implies that

one can share information among as long as it doesn't go against those policies. You have also

provided a good reason as to why the information is regulated, which involves the protection of

personal boundaries.

Peer 2 response

Your argument was qualitative and categorically stated as you began by explaining how

access to social media has been made easy as one can acquire information at any place and time.

You have also brought out the point that social media can be used for educational purposes as it

is a place where people learn new updates about healthcare. It is interesting how you brought out

the issue of unethical conduct by the professionals in the healthcare department was even more

apparent when you talked about people in the healthcare field posting pictures of them at work, a

patient they worked with or even complain about a patient online.
