Task Instruction
Starting Point Let us look back:
(Preliminaries)

Congratulations! You have done a good job last activity. I hope that the
lesson today will give you an in depth understanding of what still-life
drawing is and how else can cross-hatching be applied onto your
drawing.

 I ask that you take a look at your activity sheet from our
previous lesson on cross-hatching and examine your own
drawing of Still-life (without giving you any introduction to
drawing).

content/uploads/2016/12/start.jpg  Also, were you able to practice the cross-hatching technique
using pen and ink? Sounds interesting right?

(Acquisition)
Here are some questions for you to ponder on as we move on with our
discussion / demontration.

1. How did you go about the drawing of still-life? Did you follow
certain steps in drawing?

2. Where you able to get the actual shape of the object you copied?

The demonstration begins…

Ink pens are mostly used by artists / cartoonists in cross-hatching because

of the fine stroke of lines they produce when applied on paper.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.c But then, it is still an artist own preference if he or she will use a pencil or

artwork.

REMARKS:

Now, take a look at your still-life drawing from the last activity and help
me answer the following questions.

1. Did you follow certain steps in drawing a still-life?

Basic steps are to be followed in drawing still life.
They are…

Please do them as shown in the boxes below. Please do it in your art

notebook or any paper you have. This will serve as practice activity.
Time allotted for this is only 20 minutes.
Are you ready? You may start drawing now.

 (S) Sketching – using lines and shapes (sample sketch will be

shown).
 (O) Outlining – combine all shapes used to get the final form of
the object you are copying (sample outline form will be
shown).

 (S) Lastly, Shading – use cross-hatching as a form of shading

from light to dark (sample output will be shown with
background using pencil for cross-hatching). You may use
pencil or ink pen.

2. Where you able to get the actual shape of the object you copied?
 As you were following the demonstration, were you able to get
the actual shape of the object? If you did then you are on the
right track. If not, then you can practice some more.
Remember, never stop trying. 

Advance Lesson: Practice only if you have time.

You may refer to this link to practice further (my demonstration on
drawing “Still-life” with my nieces). This is an advance lesson which you
will be working on in Grade 6.
Note: This is not cross-hatching (this is not our project).

Once done with this activity, you may now proceed to the next step.

(Make Meaning)
How was your cross-hatching? Which do you prefer, cross-hatching using
pencil or ink pen?

I personally like using an ink pen because the tip of it is pointed

and so the lines it produces are solid and distinctly noticeable
(sample still-life drawing with cross-hatching using ink pen will be
shown). How about you?

age-illustration/3d-people- Now, look at your drawing from the demonstration and assess if you were

new ones. Please be reminded…
This procedure applies to all kinds of objects one prefers to draw. If you
REMARKS: did not get it at first try, no worries. You may try again. This is not an
easy task so be proud of your work and effort in doing it.

Also, you have to always consider applying the Principles of Design in all
your projects from this school year until you reach Senior High School. If
you intent to take up a course in college that is related to Arts, then
more so you should learn how to apply the Principles in your work.
