FRIT 7739: Online Staff Development Goals and Outline

Using Gamification

Presenter: Kevin Straughter

Location: Downtown Elementary

Audience: Teachers

Instructional Problem: I will address the need to engage and motivate students
through the use gamification integration in classroom lessons. The presentation
will focus on utilizing Smart Notebook.

Learner Characteristics:

 Current Job Position: K-5 teachers


 Prior Knowledge: Some teachers may be familiar with using some or no
gamification tools in the classroom.

Goals:

The staff development will help participants:

1. Increase their awareness of utilizing gamification in the classroom.


2. Improve the quality of teaching and learning through the use of
gamification in the classroom.
3. Increase knowledge of gamification tools available for teachers.

Content Outline:

I. Introduce gamification
a. Use presentation
i. What is it?
ii. Why to use it?
iii. How to use it
iv. Screenshots/videos of different gamification tools and
activities
v. Show how to effectively create and integrate gamification into
the lessons.
II. Participants
a. Participate in a game base learning activity
i. Successfully create a game-based learning activity
