    Nomadic people: they wander around deserts and so do not have enough
water.  They are meticulous about washing things to keep them clean.  They
also need to teach children, b/c they do not have means to keep record, so
they divided laws into pieces and very details so the children can retain the
teachings. The result became so many laws, about 613 of them.
  Leviticus: all laws of worship → Deuteronomy
       Pentateuch = Torah = Laws
             1st five scrolls

  Lessons from Abraham’s story


1. God does not accept human sacrifice
2. Use vegetable & animals as sacrifices
  Molech- an idol- rich harvest “god”
       (this idol made people do human sacrifices)
Why so many laws in OT?        Ancient customs or health practices
 There is only one . 
Jesus taught that there is only one law - the law of love
“Shema” - Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone!
Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God, with your whole
heart, and with your whole being, and with your whole strength.
b/c you love God and so you also love God’s image, who are your
neighbors and you yourself.
