1.1 Generalities
The instrument DEG 2 grants easy control over stringing operations. A wide graphical display collects the main
data monitored by the sensors mounted on the machine: actual pulling/tensioning force and speed, and cable
length. The instrument also let you set and modify on the fly a force limit: on reaching that limit, an alarm signal
is sent to the machine.
1.2 Versions
M-version adds the capability to store in memory the data displayed, altogether with some details inputted by the
user. After, the saved data can be recalled for being redisplayed, printed or saved on a memory card for being
transferred to a personal computer.

2 MENU
By pressing [OK] from the Working page, you will access the main page of the menu:
Work parameters
Manage records
Personalization options
Machine settings
Advanced functions
This submenu allows you to set the parameters needed for the machine: cable/conductor diameter and length,
force limit, mode of use (page 24)
This submenu allows you to start a work session in recording mode: all the data displayed will be recorded and
stored. From this menu, you can also redisplay stored data, print them, or save them on a memory stick through
the USB port (page 15)
Note: these functions are available on version M only.
This submenu allows you to choose the language and the measure units, to adjust the display brightness, to set
the clock and the force sensibility (page 13)
This submenu allows you to set advanced parameters of the machine. Those parameters are fixed by the
manufacturer when testing the machine, and normally don’t need to be modified ( page 25)
This submenu allows you to manage (print, save and restore) the machine settings; from here you can also
update the firmware or upload new languages for the messages ( page 28)

Work parameters
Select this item and press [OK] to set the diameter of the rope or conductor.
press the arrow keys to modify the value
press [OK] to confirm or [ESC] to quit the page without saving the modification
The work force limit is the limit reaching which the instrument send an alarm signal to the machine. The way the
alarm is managed (from acoustical alarm to the complete stop of the engine) depends from the machine itself.
The force limit (max force) can also be modified from the Working page by pressing [UP] and [DOWN] keys.
press the arrow keys to modify the value
press [OK] to confirm or [ESC] to quit the page without saving the modification
Note: the force limit cannot be higher than the Max force limit, under menu Machine settings.
The measure unit of the limit is the same used for the force.
If the instrument is mounted on a machine that can work either as puller or tensioner, you should set, before
every session of work, the mode you are using the machine. This selection determines the way the cable length is
measured: in Puller use, the cable length is increased when winded up, and decreased when released; the
opposite in Tensioner mode.
press [UP] and/or [DOWN] to alternate between Puller and Tensioner
press [OK] to confirm or [ESC] to quit the page without saving the modification
By this item you can reset the cable length. A confirmation is required: answer Yes to confirm the reset.
press [UP] and/or [DOWN] to alternate between Yes and No
press [OK] to confirm or [ESC] to quit the page without saving the modification
If you begin working with a length of cable already winded up (or paid off), it could be useful to set the
metercounter with the actual length.
press the arrow keys to modify the value
press [OK] to confirm or [ESC] to quit the page without saving the modification

To stop the recording session, press [OK] anytime: a confirmation is required. Press [OK] again to stop or [ESC]
to return to the Working page and continue the recording session.
! WARNING
Each memory slot can contain up to 4000 samples. Reached that limit, any other record will be lost. In order to
avoid that situation, use higher sample frequency (Sample every...) or split the working session in two or
more recording sessions.

This submenu allows you to choose the language and the measure units, to adjust the display brightness, to set
the clock and the force sensibility.
For a better reading comfort, it is recommended to adjust the brightness of the display in function of the
environment
press [UP] and/or [DOWN] to adjust the brightness of the display
press [OK] to confirm or [ESC] to quit the page without saving the modification
Set the sensibility to display the force: low values means higher precision in reading, while high values offer
better stability of the displayed data. The measure unit of the force sensibility is the same of the force ( par. 6.2).
Suggested value of sensibility when measure unit is daN: 50 for machines with capacity up to 4000 daN, 100
for machines with higher capacity. Suggested value of sensibility when measure unit is kN: 1.
Note: when the force measure unit is changed to kN (par. 6.2), the force sensibility is automatically set to 1.
press [UP] and/or [DOWN] to scroll among the possible values
press [OK] to confirm or [ESC] to quit the page without saving the modification
You can choose if you like the instrument requests the force limit value each time it is switched on. To do so, set
this parameter to YES.
press [UP] and/or [DOWN] to choose between Yes or No
press [OK] to confirm or [ESC] to quit the page without saving the modification
This submenu allows you to set advanced parameters of the machine. Those parameters are fixed by the

Change the password). Please note that pressing [ESC] or using a wrong password you will access the
menu with view-only privileges: you can see the parameter but cannot modify them.

10 HOW TO …
To view, print or save the records, select the item Manage records (page 15) from the main menu
The access to submenus Machine settings and Advanced functions is password protected. The password
is made of 4 digits and can be set by the user.
When the machine is supplied, the password is 0001: it is recommended to set immediately a new password.
The password must be keep safely and must be changed periodically.
Verify periodically that the built-in dynamometer is correctly balanced. Balance it if needed.
This procedure permits to augment temporarily the max limit set. The operation could be dangerous and it is
generally forbidden. It is allowed only during pipe-renewal operations, if the following conditions are
verified:
the puller is used to pull a pipe inside a horizontal conduit
the pipe jams in the conduit, and the puller reaches the max force
the safety devices block the capstans impeding to release the rope
In this case, you can raise temporarily the force limit to unlock the alarm situation, with the only purpose of
releasing the rope (and not for pulling more), and freeing the pipe.
To raise the work limit over the max limit, press contemporary the keys [ESC] and [UP] and keep them. The max
allowed raise is determined by the parameter Augment the limit % in the menu Machine settings, as a
percentage of the max limit. Releasing the keys [ESC] and [UP], the work limit will return to the normal allowed
value.
We recommend you to back-up the settings of your machine in a file, and to keep it in a safe place: you can
successively easily restore the saved settings.
