Please note:

1. Documental evidence for all the components/parts of the assessment such as the reports,
photographs, laboratory exam / tool tests are required to be attached to the assignment report
in a proper order.
2. The First Examiner is required to mark the comments in RED ink and the Second Examiner’s
comments should be in GREEN ink.

1
3. The marks for all the questions of the assignment have to be written only in the Component –
CET B: Assignment table.
4. If the variation between the marks awarded by the first examiner and the second examiner lies
within +/- 3 marks, then the marks allotted by the first examiner is considered to be final. If the
variation is more than +/- 3 marks then both the examiners should resolve the issue in
consultation with the Chairman BoE.

Assignment
Instructions to students:

1. The assignment consists of 3 questions: Part A – 1 Question, Part B- 2 Questions.

2. Maximum marks is 25.
3. The assignment has to be neatly word processed as per the prescribed format.
4. The maximum number of pages should be restricted to 10.
5. Restrict your report for Part-A to 2 pages only.
6. Restrict your report for Part-B to a maximum of 8 pages.
7. The printed assignment must be submitted to the course leader.
8. Submission Date: 1st July 2019
9. Submission after the due date is not permitted.
10. IMPORTANT: It is essential that all the sources used in preparation of the assignment must
be suitably referenced in the text.
11. Marks will be awarded only to the sections and subsections clearly indicated as per the
problem statement/exercise/question

Preamble

This course deals with the analysis and design of basic transistor amplifier circuits, tuned amplifiers,
wave shaping circuits, multi-vibrators and power supplies. The students are taught the methods of
biasing transistors and the design of simple amplifier circuits. Mid-band analysis of amplifier circuits
using small - signal equivalent circuits are also emphasised in this subject. Students are trained to
design and analyse LC oscillators, tuned amplifiers, wave-shaping circuits, multi-vibrators, power
amplifiers and power supplies.

PART A (10
Marks)

Analyse fixed bias and voltage divider bias amplifier circuit using a standard software tool.

A 1.1 Perform the DC operating point analysis.

2
A 1.2 Calculate the terminal voltages and currents for different values of β.
A 1.3 Comment on the stability of both biasing circuits.
Note: Contact course leader for power supply voltage, resistance values and transistor β values.

PART B (15
Marks)
Figure 1 shows a self-biased common emitter BJT amplifier circuit. Given VBE = 0.7V, RE = 2.7kΩ, RC =
4.7kΩ, and RS = 100Ω.

Figure 1
B 1.1 Compute the Q-point and sketch the DC load line.
B 1.2 Calculate maximum (peak to peak) output voltage swing for the given amplifier.
B 1.3 Draw small signal model for the BJT amplifier shown in Figure 1 with appropriate model
parameters.
B 1.4 Calculate input impedance, output impedance, voltage gain and current gain.
B 1.5 Comment on the amplifier behaviour w.r.t clipping and phase if V S = 10×10−3 sin(2π5000t).

Note: Contact course leader for power supply voltage, load resistance, voltage divider resistances (R 1
and R2) and β values
