Top 5 Most Powerful Psalms For Conjure Work
Top 5 Most Powerful Psalms For Conjure Work
It’s no secret that in Hoodoo we often make use of various Psalms and other
holy scripture in our magickal workings. The bible is chock full of great
information, recipes and powerful prayers and that information has long
been used in conjure work to either protect oneself from evil, cleanse the
body and home or for a number of other mundane needs. So I’ve picked out
what I believe to be the 5 most important Psalms that any good rootworker
should know. Let me know if you use any of these in your work or even if
you use them differently! It’s always really neat to see how other workers
use prayer in their own practice.
Okay onto the good stuff…
1. Psalm 51
What better way to start this list off than with one of the absolutely most
notable Psalms used in Hoodoo.
Making the top of this list is the prayer that almost every spiritual worker I
know seems to be able to recite at a moments notice off the top of their
heads and for very good reason. It is a staple of the Hoodoo community
when it comes to cleansings and even directly mentions the use of Hyssop
and Rue to perform a cleansing.
Psalm 51 is most commonly used in conjunction with a spiritual bath. There
are several different ways to go about using this method of cleansing but
here’s my favorite method if you want to give it a try:
Take equal parts of Hyssop and Rue, mix them in a pot of water and set it on
the stove on low heat, the reason for this is to get some of the plants natural
oils released into the water. I usually remove it after about 20 minutes or so.
After you remove it from the stove, allow it to cool down for another 5-10
minutes and then strain your liquid into a glass jar. Add a few pinches of the
herbs in as well and discard the rest outside. I usually put a few drops of
holy water in the jar as well but this is optional or you can even substitute it
with Florida Water if you prefer. Pray Psalm 51 over this, put a lid on it and
store it away until you are ready to use it.
It is of course ready for use right away however.
When you are ready to use it all you need to do is pour a small amount into a
bowl and take it with you to your tub. Get in the tub and use the bowl to
pour the liquid beginning at the top of your head so that it runs across your
entire body. As you are doing this you will recite Psalm 51:1-12. If you get
done with the bowl but are still reciting the Psalm you can brush the liquid
downward your body with your hands as you continue to pray. When
finished, just step out of the tub and allow yourself to air dry (no towels as
this would rub off the liquid with intention) before getting dressed. Collect a
small amount of the used liquid from the tub into a container and dispose of
it at the base of a tree. Done.
And now for the Psalm:
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness: according
Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight:
thou judgest.
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be
Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thyholy spirit from
me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free
spirit.
2. Psalm 64
Psalm 64 is a really useful prayer for when it comes down to needing some good strong
protection from people who are trying to do you harm. Simply recite it when you feel
threatened or just need that extra layer of protection before going to confront an enemy or
heading into a dangerous area. If you know the persons name you can write it on a brown
piece of paper and place that face down under this Psalm and burn a black candle on top
of it.
3. Psalm 78
If you a card reader you will probably love this one!
Psalm 78:2-4 can be recited to increase ones psychic abilities. Try this the next time you
are performing a reading, light a yellow candle and place it next to your cards, bones dice
or whatever you use and recite Psalm 78:2-4 as you pick them up and roll them or pass
them between your hands. You can stop reciting the prayer whenever you like and begin
your reading.
4. Psalm 29
So if you’ve tried my method for cleansing yourself using Psalm 51, you are going to
love using Psalm 29.
This Psalm is also for cleansing but this time, it’s your homes turn. There are so many
really good methods for cleansing your home that it’s really hard for me to decide on just
one specific way that I like best but Psalm 29 can be incorporated into just about any
method. Try to incorporate to this method that I wrote about.
5. Psalm 65
Last but certainly not least we have Psalm 65 or how I like to refer to it…. The Gamblers
Psalm
Yep, this Psalm is used to bring luck in all things large and small in ones life. Recite it
before you go out to gamble or are doing anything that requires a great deal of luck. Pray
it over any gambling oils or powders. In this sense it is also just as useful as an amplifier
for any magickal work you are doing or rather it is an amplifier for any luck that may be
involved in the work being successful. Can you tell that luck is the keyword with this
prayer yet?
