1 Scope
This specification sets the minimum acceptable requirements for supply of a covers for the
surface entry chambers which shall be installed along all duct routes.
In case of difference between this specification and the specified international standards then
the most stringent requirements shall prevail.
3 Climatic Data
For this document, the climatic conditions of the Sultanate of Oman shall be taken into account.
The following data provided is for guidance only.
4 Material characterisation
Chamber covers shall be manufactured comply with requirements of EN 124.
The metal used for the manufacture of castings the manhole top shall be Spheroidal graphite
iron (Ductile Iron) 400/15 according to ISO 1083.
All casts units shall be cleanly cast and shall be free from air holes, sand holes, cold shuts and
chill. They shall be neatly dressed and carefully cleaned of any rough edges
5 Classification
Group 4 – minimum Class D400
Access covers and gratings capable of withstanding a 40 tonnes test load. For use in areas
where cars and trucks have access, including carriageways, hard shoulders and pedestrian
areas.
6.1 Marking
All covers in the OBC network will be Black in colour and annotated in English and Arabic –
Oman Broadband

Class of loading
Material shall be inspected randomly during installation for non-compliance to specification and
any bad installation practices.
OBC may reject any item that does not totally comply with requirements of this specification.
9 Quality assurance/control
A copy of manufacturer`s Quality Assurance and Quality Control shall be submitted for review
and approval.
11 Documentation:
The manufacturer shall provide the following vendor data as a minimum.
12 Guarantee
The manufacturer will provide guarantees and warranties and OBC will review prior to
acceptance of the product.
13 Miscellaneous requirements
Preference will be given to a cover system which incorporates a hinged arrangement. This
arrangement should allow single person opening and be able to separate completely the cover
from the frame.
