Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The module will be delivered mainly through lectures, group seminars and small
group teaching activities. Knowledge of theory and practice are addressed within the
contact time and the small group teaching activities will be organised so that a
combination of exercise, worked examples and discussion can engage the student
with their personal formation in the subject area.

The lectures and small group teaching activities input will primarily take place in week
1.

In the period between weeks 1 and 2 the student groups will engage in research and
preparation ahead of week 2 where the student groups will concentrate on the
production of the assessment documentation.

During week 2 staff will be available for guidance and to brief the student groups as
project specific information is released at various times during the week.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

The learning outcomes of this module are about developing student skills and
abilities to deliver effective and efficient construction projects. As “live” projects are
delivered through teams of people working together it is essential that the students
are able to simulate some of this practice. Therefore the assessment will be through
a project in which a substantial part of the work is carried out in groups. To ensure
some individual accountability within the assessment parts of the work will be done
individually. The Project Management Plan consists of three main activities as stated
below:
Poster Presentation (a group activity - 20%), Project Delivery Plan (a group activity -
60%), Team Working (Teamworking Group Report - 10%) and Teamworking
Individual Report (10%).
