Topic: Verbs

What is a verb?

A verb is a word which expresses an action.

Examples:

 The athlete runs very fast. (action)


 The girl writes very neatly. (action)
 He ate his lunch greedily. (action)

Examples of verbs (action)

 skip
 run
 jump
 play
 imagine
 think
 understand
 scrub
 drive
 fall

 Verbs have tense. Tense tells the time that the action takes place.
 Verbs can tell if the action takes place in the Present Time, Past Time or
Future Time.
 Present Tense shows something that is happening at the Present Time.
Present Tense verbs for singular subjects end with ‘s’, ‘es’ or ‘ies’.
For plural subjects the verb does not have any inflection (example ‘s’).
Examples:

 She likes to study.


 The farmer plants vegetables.
 The baby cries loudly.
 The child fetches the sandbox.
 The men jog in the evenings.
 We prepare dinner for everyone.
