FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UT Security Net Breached

The Breach Affected Students Information Only

TAMPA, FL – February 14, 2019 – A data breach occurred at The University of Tampa in the
Jaeb Computer Center. Employers from the Information Technology and Security department
noticed the issue this morning (14), and are working to find out when the breach occurred.

The breach only compromised information from the student’s database. Therefore, The director
of the ITS department, Frank Lampard, urges only the students to check their login information
and as a precaution, advises them to change their passwords within the next few days.

“We did not find anything that indicates foul play and our security is already back on” said
Lampard, “However, it’s important that the students became aware of the issue and report to us
or Campus Security for anything suspicious.”

The employers reestablished the security system today at 9:00 am. For more information or
questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at (813) 253-6293 or studenthelp@ut.edu.
