RE: Reference for Jason Lescak

I coordinated a primary-grade volunteer reading program at an inner-city school in Vancouver.

Jason was a volunteer from November, 2017 to May, 2019. The program provided individual
one-to-one reading with Kindergarten and Grade 1 students, volunteers reading with the same
cohort of students weekly for two years.

In observing and working with Jason he was dependable, flexible in the school setting, and
consistently student-centered with the four students he read with. Jason was adept at
recognizing the unique strengths of each student, ensuring that his time was both encouraging,
interesting, and appropriately constructive.

While the content focus of reading with each child had variations, the common factor to all of
them was being respected, engaged, and valued. This had obvious benefits for self-awareness
and a positive sense of self-worth.

Jason’s consistency was particularly useful with students who encountered additional
challenges in familiarizing themselves with books while engaging the complex process of
learning to read. The classroom teachers noted the interest and anticipation his students had
for their time with him.

Jason genuinely enjoys working with children. He understands that learning is not a straight-
forward lineal process and is adroit at navigating peaks and valleys. He has the confidence to
seek out and utilize problem-solving consultation, has a diverse background, experientially and
culturally, and engages professional staff with interest and respect.

In conclusion Jason would be a strong addition to any school. If additional information is
