JMSK_POLIMAS_JUNE2020
Lab work 2 is conducted online because of all classes needed to be implemented online due
to Covid-19 pandemic. Students are required to complete lab work 2 report based on the lab
sheet and video provided.

INSTRUCTION:

1. Students need to complete lab work 2 report based on the lab sheet and video provided
(https://youtu.be/F7tfWqia4FA)

2. DATA / RESULT – Record the result obtained from the video of lab work 2 into Table 2a.

3. CALCULATION – Show all the calculation needed by using the data from Table 2a to
complete Table 2b. Calculate the data with SI unit correctly in well-organized manner.

4. ANALYSIS – Explain the findings in the experiment and the experimental errors (including
possible effects of errors and ways to reduce errors)

5. CONCLUSION – Write the findings with correct theory and with supported reference.

6. LAB SAFETY & REGULATION – Lab safety & regulation are clearly identified and stated
according to the video given.
EXPERIMENT 2: ARCHIMEDES’ PRINCIPLE

OBJECTIVES
To determine the buoyant force from Archimedes’ Principle.

HYPOTHESIS
The buoyant force on an object is equal to the weight of the water displaced.

APPARATUS
Retort Stand - 1 Beaker 250 ml - 1
Spring Balance - 1 Eureka Beaker - 1
Electronic Balance - 1 String - 1
3 Set of Block - Wood, Metal, Plastic - 1 Scissor - 1

PROCEDURES
1. Weigh the mass of empty beaker.
2. Hang the spring balance at the arm of retort stand.
3. Tie the wooden block and hang to the spring balance.
4. Record the weight of the block in the air as Figure 2a.
5. Fill the Eureka beaker with water.
6. Set the apparatus as Figure 2b.
7. Then, lower the arm of the retort stand tied with the block gently.
8. Let the block arise/sink in water.
9. Record the weight of the block.
10. Water will be displaced from eureka beaker into the other beaker.
11. Record the mass of the displaced water in the beaker.
12. Repeat the above procedures by using the plastic and metal blocks.
