1. Discuss the sectors of economy and how this has been affected by globalization

Going back to the discussions, globalization greatly affects the sectors of economy namely primary, secondary,
tertiary, quaternary and quinary sectors. Remember that the primary sector refers to the economy extracting or
harvesting raw materials. Manufacturers cannot obtain all these materials from their local place – these has to be
extracted from certain parts of the world. Secondary sector is affected because here, finished goods are
produced. All manufacturing, processing and construction jobs lie within this sector. For instance, the
manpower needed for this sector is contributed by different workers and brains from other parts of world. Now
in the tertiary sector where it is also known as the service industry, if simple put, provides services. Because of
technology, trade and services between foreign contries are now possible in easier and faster way. The
quaternary sectory consist of intellectual activities often associated with the mentiond technological innovation,
important association with the clobalisation as this sector include government, culture, libraries, scientific
research, education, and information technology. Lastly, quinary includes the highest levels of decision-making
in a society or economy. This requires intensive communication between leaders.

2. Why is the existence of TNCs an important issue in the discussion of globalization. Does its existence
directly affect you? How and why?
Remember that Trans National Corporations consists of big companies that handles and operates
globally. This industry cannot be NOT associate with globalization as it requires participation and
involvement of one country to another. From the extraction, production and distribution, TNCs need to
incorporate the collusion of other corporations other than their own. And yes, I’m aware how its
existence directly affects me and the way I live my life. Being in a third-world country, there’s not much
of big corporations operating that could solely supplement the entire country. That is why imports and
exports are very crucial. Personally, I even have relatives who are working from foreign countries
outside our own, even my brother. Their incentives are sent to us, one of the reason why we directly
benefit to the TNCs. From branded shoes, shirts and gadgets. The problem here is how TNCs also
benefit from us – more than how we benefit from them.

3. If you could decide which political system the Philippines should employ, what would it be and why?

Democracy. I personally believe that democracy is suited especially for the younger generations, I could see
much potential. The problem here is that although democracy is currently being practiced in the Philippines, this
system is being abused by many – especially those in power. I admire how millennials and generation z are
much more politically and socially aware – for example, certain discourses in social media like twitter and
facebook is a result of our democracy, it becomes messy most of the time but it’s a good start for practicing our
rights as a democratic country.

4. Cite a concrete example of the globalization of culture in the Philippine context. How do you think this
came to be and what will its implication be to the Philippine society and culture.

The prominence of k-pop and k-drama in the Philippines especially during this quarantine massively affects our
culture. As one of the most rated social media user around the globe, months of isolation prompted most of the
Filipinos to be MORE enthusiastic regarding the Korean culture. Even I, myself, was not a fan of k-pop but I
started to explore their industry and I took interest. Even my mom, who does not like to watch Korean series,
now finishes more k-drama than me. Through social media and Netflix, products of globalization, led us to be
introduced with culture outside our own. Recently, there are even p-pop groups inspired by the k-pop like the
SB19. That is a sign of how big globalization’s impact is to certain cultures. Few years from now, I would be
expecting that a lot of Filipinos would be following the steps of how Koreans live their lives. Although it is not
bad to desire for revolutions and transformations – since they’re also bound to happen – what’s scary is that if
we fail to recognize the importance of acknowledging our own.
