Describe any 5 signs and symptoms of frustrations, causes of frustrations and


strategies to handle frustration.
a) Getting angry-when one fails to attain a certain goal he/she gets angry at him/herself.
b) Give up/quit- this comes to a person after he/she loses hope in what he wanted or desired.
c) Lose self-esteem- this is a result of not seen any good in him/herself.
d) Feel a loss of self-confidence- he/she develops a fear that he cannot face it again.
e) Turn to substance abuse- indulging in drug abuse so as to relieve him/herself from their
failure of his desires.

Causes of frustrations-occurs from feelings of uncertainty and insecurity which stems from a
sense of inability to fulfill needs. If the needs of an individual are blocked, uneasiness and
frustrations are more likely to occur.

- Environmental obstacles can frustrate the satisfaction of motives by making it difficult or


impossible for a person to attain a goal.
- Personal inadequacies of certain important items needed to achieve a goal.
- Aggressiveness
- Withdrawal – where one seems not to catch up/gives up on the process of achieving the
goal.
- Conflicts produce frustrations-when one indulges his/herself in conflict he gets angry
thus becoming aggressive.

Strategies to handle frustrations.

- Take deep breaths- get some exercises.


- Figure out the source of frustrations
- Remind yourself that this will pass
- Work on something else.
- Do something pleasant.
- Use honor to release tension.
2. Evaluate agents of socialization
i) Family- this is the first society a child meets. He/she learns basic values such as good
manners, moral behaviors, respect of elders in the family and how to treat others. This
basic values shape the child, build his/her character.
ii) School- these is the second society, they will be able to acquire knowledge and skills.
Taught values such as honesty, co-operation, obedience, accountability, responsibility,
respect, teamwork. Introduce rules such as punctuality and submissiveness to authority.
All this help the growing child the right way to behave in society. The school is the agent
of socialization through which culture is formally transmitted from generation to
generation.
iii) Peer groups- out of the family the child gets to meet friends in school. Friends influence
one’s behavior. Parents try to influence their children to have positive friends and avoid
negative ones. This enables one to keep good behaviors.
iv) Religious- most children are exposed to beliefs and detaching of ne religion or the other
from birth. As they grow, they depend on the spiritual knowledge they have acquired by
themselves and from religious institutions like churches, mosques to live way.
v) Mass media – it’s the effective agent of socialization. Through mass we can get
information on different things live development in science technology, cultural heritage,
moral attitudes, religion, drug abuse, political and economic issues, etiquettes and more.
The information influences our behavior positively and negatively.
3. Describe theories of frustrations.
 Frustration-aggression theory- frustration always leads to aggression. This aggression
is always caused by frustration. Someone who gets frustrated will then get this urge to
behave aggressively.
 Aggression is an innate drive response to frustrating external stimuli from the
environment. The frustrating stimuli can be any social condition that thwart out
satisfaction such as poor housing, unemployment
 Aggression theory- this theory suggest that certain cues in our environment have become
strongly associated with aggression and aggressive behavior, they have aggressive cue
value.
