Tomorrow when the war began

-Reading for Interaction-

Chapters one to five:

1. List the names of those who agree to go on the camping trip with Ellie and Corrie.
- Robyn
- Kevin
- Lee
- Fiona (Fi)
- Homer

2. Where are they planning to go and when?

- They are planning to go bush for a few days over the Christmas holidays, during
the Wirrawee Show. They want to spend the days at the top of Tailor’s Stitch a
wild place between Wombegonoo and Mt Martin and they want to get into Hell a
cauldron in the Mountain. They can go in there, while they use the “Satan’s
steps”, which are small cliffs you can descend.

3. Why does Ellie want to invite Lee?

- She realized that they don’t have much time left at school and she won’t leave
the school without getting to know people like Lee, because she thinks Lee is very
interesting.

4. Briefly describe how they got into Hell.

- To reach in the hell, they must lay a laborious way behind themselves. They can
go with the Land Rover near the descent place, however, then they must go on
on foot. The way down is also called "Satan's Steps", because the descent looks
like a stair with gigantic steps. There isn’t really a way, but they have a very good
view. They must climb down very difficult stages. After they have mastered some
gigantic steps, they want to whip her camp on this step.

5. What significant thing happened on the second night?

- On the night dozens of planes flying without lights over their heads and they
wondered why they did this.

6. What new things did Ellie learn about Homer during their stay?
- Ellie has grown up with Homer because they were neighbours. She always
thought from him that he hardly had feelings. But on one day he tells her that he
has fallen in love with Fi. And this surprises Ellie, because she didn’t know this
character of Homer, although he was always like a brother for her.

Chapters six to nine:

1. What did they find when they got to Ellie's place? Homer's Place?
- In front of Ellie’s house they found her dogs partly dead. Then they have gone
into the house. There everything was untouched as if somebody had gone and
wanted to come again immediately. But no human life was to be seen or to hear.
Then they have found out that the stream doesn’t function anymore and also the
radio doesn’t send. In Homer's house it looked similar: Everything deserted and
the animals shortly before the death or quite deadly.

2. What do they finally agree may have happened and what will they do?
- After long discussion they have come to the end that they were invaded and that
a war could have broken out, while they were away. As a result they decide that
they form groups to find out fast enough how it stands with the town and their
families. They decide that at night Homer and Fiona go to Fiona's house, Robyn
and Lee go to Lee's house and Kevin, Corrie and Ellie take a closer look at the
Showground. At 3 o'clock they want to meet themselves again at the start place.

3. What message does Corrie's dad send her?

- He wrote a fax from the Secretary's Office of the show to her. In the Fax is written
that something's going on. The father is very careful and already thinks the others
would tell him an idiot because of this Fax. He still says in the fax that Corrie if she
comes home should be careful or best of all, go bush.

4. What did they see at the show grounds?

- They saw that still many things of the show were at her original place. Also they
saw several tents and pavilions which were guarded by soldiers and female
soldiers. Briefly before they want to go, they see one more hostage which goes
on the toilet.

5. Describe the incident which involved the ride-on mower.

- Ellie injures and possibly kills three of the soldiers by blowing up the ride-on
mower.

6. What had Fi and Homer seen on their trip into town?

- On the corner of Maldon and West had been some kind of action (a bit of battle).
- Every shop had its windows smashed.
- They saw eight soldiers.
- Fi meant to have seen people, who haven't been caught yet because they ran
away before Fi and Homer.
- A bomb did hit the Andersens’ place.

7. Why do they agree to go back to Hell?

- The group isn't any more certainly in the house and also not in the town. The hell
is the only safe place. They would be found quite difficult there. And they simply
don't want to surrender and put the soldier to themselves.

8. What happens to Corrie's house and why?

- The group was surprised by a helicopter and they see to their horror that Kevin's
dog, Flip, is outside barking at the chopper. They only just manage to retreat to
the shearer's quarters out the back when an enemy jet appears and destroys
Corrie's house.
