Supersession
This British Standard supersedes BS B 23:1991, which is withdrawn.
Information about this document
This is a full revision of BS B 23 and introduces the following principal changes:
a) symbols and units in the tables are to be interpreted in accordance with BS ISO 31-0 and
BS ISO 1000;
b) requirements are stated in tabular format in accordance with prEN 4500-1;
c) for dimensional inspection of bars, rods and sections (Table 1-line 96), withdrawn
BS 2874 has been replaced by BS EN 12163;
d) for dimensional inspection of forging stock (Table 2-line 96), withdrawn BS 2872 has
been replaced by BS EN 12165.

1 Scope
This British Standard specifies the inspection and testing procedures, chemical composition, heat
treatment and mechanical properties for a copper-aluminium-nickel-iron alloy supplied in the form of

rods (bars), sections, forging stock and forgings.

3 Technical requirements
3.1 Material to this standard shall conform to the technical requirements specified in Table 1 for bars,
rods and sections and Table 2 for forging stock and forgings. All material supplied shall conform to the
requirements appropriate to its condition and dimensions as specified in the standards given in lines 5
and 96 of Table 1 or Table 2.
3.2 Symbols and units in the tables shall be interpreted in accordance with BS ISO 31-0 and BS ISO
1000.
NOTE The format and symbols used in Table 1 and Table 2 are derived from prEN 4500-1.
