Home acquisition process: Informal method (Muslim friend recommendation, no dealers involved,
mutual trust)

Owners: Muslim friend, know them through living in the same community for a long time, they don’t
live there but have given space to them. They are acting as custodians for the whole property
(responsibility and trust)

House sharing: Being shared with workshop space of owners (car repairing). Owners have divided the 10
marla house into four 2 ½ marlas. Loaders are parked at back on the house.

Neighborhood: 2 Brothers live aside, neighborhood and across street, family ties are strong while living
together, certain things can’t be said only that “bhai bhai ko Khushi gham mein ek dusre ke sath rehna
chahiye”. Strong family connections
Daily Routine: 8am -2pm rescue 1122 Chandni Chowk branch, 2pm -4pm Bible class Bahar colony, 4pm-
6pm self-time, 6pm-10pm pastor serving (could exceed, depends on special cases)

Particular: Domestic cases such as divorce or marital problems are first taken to the pastor, majorly
resolved at that level, communal trust and belief because of his Religious status

Police station proximity, Gambling, Jua, Sharab Cases are handled through the pastor due to his
involvement in govt. dept rescue reference.

Doing two jobs is because the Kaleesia (congregation) is low-income group and can’t give much (unhe
humen dene ki zaroorat parti hai, na ke un se lene ki)

Community ties: Many families from village of Bagarian, youth girls sometime help, cleaning, ironing,
pick & drop sometimes provided by youth group boys (Bua ke bache), congregation and family give and
take, no commute problem (chacho lives next door, provides services), walking distance

Other pastors are class mates at Bible school, so mutal co-operation is observed, many house churches
are present, but conflicts are usually resolved before hand (Easter, Christmas processions (jaloos),
convention timings etc.)

“Khandan se hat ke zyada connection mera kaleesia ke sath hai, thori problems ki waja se mein wo sare
facilities ko side pe nahi rakh sakta”

Issues like divorce are handled through religious significance, “both educated log nahin hain, jab log
dekhte hain, sunte hain ke kalam ki baat ho rahi hai, ya khuda ka banda hadayat kr rha hai to wo
generally sulah kr lete hain; sada log hain kalam ki baat ko zyada samajhte hain.”

Home usage: choir practice, Bible class, Prayer hall, Sunday mass (terrace * 400-500 people), Sunday
school, youth meetings, women’s prayer.

Assets: No gold jewellery, *real asset is the future dream for a Church building, used for both domestic
and church purpose. ASPIRATION is the real ASSET* There is specific distinction between Communal
space and personal space.

Aspiration: Elder son should become a Pastor, but not an informal one like me, with proper job and
church building, pastor house, but options are open for his personal likes and dislikes (no force
whatsoever)

In 10 years, he wants to see his congregation should be strengthened (Because of his strong dependence
on his kaleesia), probably will shift from rental house to an owned accommodation, May buy house in
other part, but Church will definitely be in this Area. (congregation proximity)

14 lac is currently stored for future building (communal hadiya used to buy the space)

Bank account: UBL (account opened before marriage), sona, paisa is not a priority but church land is!

Church land acquisition process: May buy land in a neighboring village, won’t built anything, wait until
land price goes up and will sell at higher price, then will buy in city.

General plan of future house: House Church,

Big hall on ground Floor, while Pastor home will be on first floor.

Social capital: Tent renting (shadi, fotaggi(funeral)), youth boys (pickup service, putting up light setting),
2000-5000 (highly depends on the person, may get or may not get at all)

Communal grounds are used by kids and Sunday cricket by boys, women don’t use that space due to
privacy concerns, mela and jhule at Christmas, Catholic conventions, Muslim brothers set up food stalls
around Christmas festivals because they know that Our Christian brothers would be busy (Joint event
Celebration), Jhule wale are Also Muslims but it is a must that they will come around these time of the
year, Muslim tehvaars are less celebrated but families usually use this for shadi, janaza, janam-dins etc.

Security is a must, provided by the police station who take concessional rates when programs are
religious.

Pressures: Whenever community (apart from relatives) calls (even at 3am, he has to BE THERE!
automatically feels pressurized, supporting them financially if member is in emergency or hospital),
sometimes become annoying since no time is left for family

House construction: Brick-lintel construction, paka makkan (R.C.C construction)

Wife name/ age: Nausheen Ashfaq, 39

Occupation: Female Pastor Bua (Pastor’s wife), Sunday-school teacher Renting business (wreath-veil)

Wages: Renting income 5000-7000 (Nov-Feb) unpredictable

Education: Matriculation Bahar Colony,

B.A

Seminary OTS (open theological school) Bahar Colony

Acting as Husband’s substitution if not around (community at Farooqabad)

Ties with women: Prayer, marital problems resolved through biblical references, youth girls helping in
wreath-veil business, Teaching bible (give and take relationship)

Committee involvement: Yes, generally trusting Jaith (brother-in law’s) daughter who leads this group,
but because of (Pastor’s bhatiji), women generally have trust in them and involve in their committee
group.

Routine: Closely knit with kaleesia, even if home is dirty let it be, teaching, praying with community,
Christmas Tableau preparation (students come in shifts) Oct-Dec extremely busy, 11am- 2pm, 4pm-
6pm,

choir Practice 6pm-9pm, During these months, Youth girls wash dishes, roti pakana, salan banana, taking
care of her own children while she is busy making props or rehearsals for Sunday School Programs,
Songs, Hymns,

Apart from these months, this is a general trend, Weekly Sunday school handwork takes a lot of
preparation time (60-70 kids!), Many Youth boys/ girls help in this activity,
“Mein sirf nam ki housewife hun, waise mera time apne bachon se zyada gali ke bachon ke sath guzarta
hai”. Intricately linked with society.

Convenience: Sabzi Hawkers venture in neighborhood, sometimes youth boys may do household chores
such as bringing sabzi or milk.

Children (03): Students (Rainbow school)

1. Name/Age: Itmenaan Ashfaq 10yrs (Boy)- 03 standard
Generally, has a knack for analyzing things (breaking up toys and understanding their mechanics, logical,
therefore father wanted to have a leadership role as a pastor (Protégé child))

2. Name/Age: Shallow Ashfaq 08yrs (Girl)- 02 standard

3. Name/age: Abial-Sara Ashfaq 05yrs (Girl)- Kindergarten
Routine: 8am-2pm school timings, 3pm-5/6pm tuition time (mother teaches herself), this may increase
upto 8 pm if children are having exams,

Particulars:
Terrace is used as a vital junction, Church is set-up on terrace, Tents are set-up every Sunday for the
mass, Timings are changed according to seasons (March-October) 8am-10am, “garmi hone se pehle hi
Church kr lete hain”; in winter months (November-February) 10am-12pm, “Thandi dhoop mein church
kr lete hain”, He said.

Tent Technology is not Khupa (canopy tent), but with pardas (curtains), covering all sides (privacy
control,)

Thermal comfort (house and church both): in summers pedestal fans, air coolers (in-expensive
methods), In winters anghithi (iron coal burners) is used, bonfires are set up in case program is open to
sky,

In winters the program is varied according to season, evening time is generally avoided for children’s
program (don’t have affordable option to keep the whole terrace area warm for little ones), whereas the
lower main hall area can house 20-25 people (in winters/ congested),

Mother doesn’t allow her children to commune with kids outside the house, (strong distinction between
mohalla ka bacha and kids they are familiar with) but Sunday school communing is done on terrace
(controlled/ supervision parental vision), Terrace becomes more important than the gallies and mohalla
streets

Chaat (terrace) becomes a communal node, recent family funeral was done on the terrace as covid has
banned gatherings, (agreement with police regarding SOPs was done), tents, facilities were already
available and Christian community nearby. In summers used for sleeping and cloth drying as well.
