The advantages and the disadvantages of smartphones

Advantages:

- Useful applications / utility softwares – camera, calendar, notes, calculator, radio, etc.
- Maps and navigation
- Constant Internet access
- Staying in touch – your friends and family are only a text away from you
- You can call for help in case of an emergency
- Apps for anything (even for language learning)
- Keeps you entertained (video, books, games, music, etc.)
- You can check your email
- You can reach your bank account, pay bills, etc.

Disadvantages:

- Harmful for your eyes


- You can never be fully alone, anyone can reach you anytime
- Problems with safety – all your data is on your phone, if it gets stolen, a stranger can find out
everything about you; no privacy
- Distraction – you can’t concentrate on a task if your phone is ringing, buzzing, etc.
- Smartphone users (esp. youngsters) have worse social skills; they can’t talk to people in
person → it is to the detriment of relationships
- Dangerous → drivers can cause accidents when they are on the phone
