ARTS RESEARCH

With the on-going Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), it is impossible for us to mount the main
output of this research. Thus, we will just simplify the requirement for this subject.

To date, during the 1st, 2 nd, and 3rd Quarter, we have started crafting your research paper. Proposals,
series of consultations and panel defence have been made.

Also, in the IMRAD structure, we have completed the discussion of Introduction and Methods. With this,
the said parts of research along with references shall be the only requirement that needs to be
submitted for S.Y. 2019-2020. The remaining Results and Discussion will no longer be required to be
accomplished unless otherwise these parts was already done before the ECQ and bound to be edited by
your respective editor.

Below is the run-down of our discussion of the parts of IMRAD. This will be your guide in crafting the
final requirement. Please take time to review your research and double check if this already reflects on
your research.

Abstract

Abstracts can vary in length from one paragraph to several pages, but they follow the IMRaD format and
typically spend:

a) A discussion on the importance of your research. You may get the idea from your introduction
b) A discussion on what you did. You may get the idea from your methods.

Introduction (Make a case for your research)

Begin by explaining to your readers what problem you have researched and why the research is
necessary. Convince readers that it is important that they continue to read. Discuss the current
state of research in your field, expose a “gap” or problem in the field, and then explain why is your
present research is a timely and necessary solution to that gap. The following questions may guide you
in crafting the introduction:

a) Give a background of your research. (explain the roots/origin of the problem)

b) What is the rationale- the reason behind your research? What is the purpose of the
study? Why is your chosen topic a necessary for research? What is the importance of this
research?
c) What is the current state of the research problem in the field?
d) Cite a review of related literature, past studies or other researches done before. Use
these related literatures in your introduction. How these related literature can be stitched
together to come up with a new idea?
e) Identify the key references. Extract ideas from past studies and use this into your
introduction.
f) What are the gaps to be bridged or the problems that needs a solution? How your
research can be a solution to these gaps?
g) What are the problems or challenges in the field?
h) What are the objectives of your study? Give at least three objectives.

Methods (What did you do?)

Methods are usually written in past tense and passive voice with lots of headings and subheadings.

a) What is your research design? A research design is the set of methods and procedures in
collecting and analyzing measures. A research design is a framework that has been created
to find answers to research questions.
b) Design types and sub-types include:
•Descriptive (e.g., Case-study, naturalistic observation, survey),
•Co-relational (e.g., case control study, observational study)
•Semi-experimental (e.g., field experiment, quasi-experiment),
•Experimental (experiment with random assignment)
•Review (literature review, systematic review),
•Meta-analytic(meta-analysis, i.e., using statistical methods for contrasting and combining
results from different studies to identify patterns among study results, sources of
disagreement among those results, or other interesting relationships that may come to
light in the context of multiple studies)
c) Who are your respondents? What data or information are you going to collect to be used
in this research? When is your data gathering? Is there any special occasion in the
community for you to observe in order to gather data? Where? How are you going to
collect the data? Why is the data necessary?
d) What are the materials, interventions, outcome measures, statistical analysis, sample size
calculations, and ethical considerations in collecting the data?
e) What are your data gathering tools and techniques? Data gathering tools may be in a form
of a survey, interview, random sampling, and a whole lot more.

Results
a) What are the results of all the experiments? What are the outcomes of the experiments?
b) Based on your experiments, what are the data or results that you have gathered? Present
your data [in Texts, Tables, Figures if possible]
c) Present the interpretation, analysis, and explanation of your data (go back to your
objectives if it is achieved)

Discussion
a) Present a summary of major findings (Summarize the data that you have gathered after
the performance/feedbacks)
b) Discussion of findings ( What are the major key points that needs to be addressed in the
research process, crafting the production, performance, and post-production)

c) Alternative explanations (present an alternative solutions to the problems that you have
identified and encountered)
d) What are the strengths and weaknesses of your research? Identify various strengths and
weaknesses in areas or aspects of your research. You may refer to the activity evaluation
in analyzing this part.
e) Present an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses
f) Use Theory and Approach as part of analysis
g) Implications of the findings based on Theory and Approach
h) What are the unanswered questions in your research?
i) Present a Final Summary (synopsis/sum-up) of your research
j) Present a conclusion (wrap-up) of your research
