BASIS FOR CALCULATING VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL DISPLACEMENT

1
FOR SAGGING AND HOGGING.

1.1 The vertical deflection at each frame due to sagging and hogging can be calculated by the formula:

Where:
a : angle between a vertical line through the bending center, and a line from the bending center to the frame
where the vertical deflection is recorded.
dy: vertical displacement.
x : Deflections at midships.
r: Bending radius at the required elevation.

1.2 Longitudinal deflections are calculated by a simple stress-strain relationship, using the hull girder bending
moment, inertia, and distance from the neutral axis to the top of the stool.
The equations are shown below:

Where:
ε is the strain
M is the total bending moment
E is the modulus of elasticity
I is the hull girder moment of inertia
c is the distance from the hull neutral axis to the top of the stools

Local deflection at each frame is found by multiplying the strain at each frame by the frame spacing.
Total longitudinal deflection relative to midships at each frame is calculated as the sum of the individual
deflections for all frames between midships and the frame in question.
INPUTS

Total Bending moment for Hogging and Sagging is considered in the calculation as per the FPSO HULL
DEFLECTION REPORT (Project specific).
The values will change according to frames as shown below.

Hull girder moment of inertia and neutral Axis height for Hogging and Sagging is considered in the
calculation as per the FPSO HULL DEFLECTION REPORT (Project specific).
The values will change according to frames as shown below.

2 STEPS TO IMPORT SAGGING/HOGGING DISPLACEMENTS IN CAESAR.

2.1 Specify the connecting nodes at all the support locations.

CNode = Node + 1

Connected Node at
each support

2.2 Extract the restraints and cordinates from caesar output in separate Excel file and save it in CSV format
by giving the file name as shown below.

2.3 Browse and Select the Coordinates and Restraint files

Upload the selected files by clicking on "Upload" button
Calculate results for the input by clicking on the "Calculate" button
Generate CAESAR output file by clicking on "Write File" button
