Educational and Training Equipment
The form in which energy circulates from one system to another when they are at two different
temperatures is called heat.
Work, instead, is the form in which energy circulates from one system to another by using a
mechanical device.
In order to analyze the various forms of energy and the ways in which it transforms itself, specific
apparatuses are needed.
To this purpose, Prodit has designed and manufactured a series of fully instrumented training units
that allow demonstration and investigation around thermodynamics topics and make thus possible a
complete understanding of the various aspects that characterize this complex but fascinating field.
Vocational and technical schools have at their disposal a wide selection of didactic equipment to
complete or set up their thermodinamics laboratory.

STEAM BOILER/TURBINE

PLANTS
The Prodit experimental steam plants have been

designed to provide a comprehensive range of
equipment for teaching the technology of steam
plants in thermodynamics courses. All the items
which each plant is equipped reflect modern
practice and the maximum of safety features are
minimizing any risk in operation. The whole plants
are supplied in a set of packages easily
connectable which all pipeworks and lagging are
factory preassembled. The plants are foreseen to
work as a steam generator for tests on steam
boilers, as a steam boiler/turbine unit for steam
turbine experimental works and as steam source
for experimental steam equipment. The steam
boiler-turbine plants are fully instrumented to
provide both a high degree of safety, as it is
indispensable for educational systems, and its
adjustment to the different working parameters for
experimental purposes.
The steam boiler plants, can be supplied with different boiler capacity and different configurations according to the desired lay-out and
component chosing as per the client needs.
The steam boilers are supplied with oil burner, gauges, safety equipment, water feeding pump, control board.

The unit has been designed to give students a low cost, simple
and reliable apparatus for comprehensive tests on heat
exchangers. It consists of a table top frame mounting up to four
water/water heat exchangers of different type.

This apparatus has been developed in order to allow students to perform experiments on heat transfer from a solid surface to the surrounding

MODULAR SYSTEM FOR HEAT TRANSFER LAWS DEMONSTRATION
The modular system has been conceived to give students a better understanding of the heat transfer phenomena. The units have been designed
in order to permit an easy and clear monitoring of all features regarding the physical phenomena of the heat conduction, convection and radiation
with the main object to verify the laws governing them. Available options include: •Radial conduction - heat transfer module; •Linear conduction-
heat transfer module; •Extended surface heat transfer module; •Computerized data acquisition and processing. Experimental tests: -Application
of the Fourier Law for the calculation of the thermal flow by steady-state conduction through solid materials; -Measurement of the temperature
distribution for steady-state conduction (radial and linear thermal flow ) and plotting of the graphic temperatures against radial coordinates or
distance for linear heat conduction module; -Calculation of the thermal conductivity of the material and plotting of the graphic thermal
conductivity against temperatures; -Study of a mathematical model to represent the law (T); -To calculate the heat transfer from an extended
surface coming from both free convection and radiation modes and comparing the obtained values with a theoretical analysis; -To plot the

FREE AND FORCED HEAT CONVECTION TRAINING MODULE
The unit consists in a module compatible with the heat transfer control unit intended to provide all the basic demonstrations that the students
have to perform in a practical training course; Designed to demonstrate convective heat transfer coefficients, temperature profiles and heat flux
in air duct. The unit consists of a centrifugal fan connected to a round vertical outlet duct which mounts a bank of heated surface cylinders. This
bank can be operated in free convection or forced convection mode. Forced convection is obtained activating the fan that produces a stream of
moving air. In order to investigate about the influence of the geometrical parameters, different lay-outs can be arranged with the heated cylinder
bank. The cylindrical heater supplied are four, they can be arranged and powered in various geometrical lay-outs as single, double, triangular
or square configuration in order to obtain perpendicular or parallel flow, rotated, in-line or triangular lay-outs. For all above lay-outs the
measurement of the electric power supplied together with the surface temperature allows the effects of the tube geometrical arrangement to be
demonstrated. In the meantime when used with a single heater the unit allows to compare the effects of radiation and convection evidencing
the dominance of convection at lower surface temperatures and the dominance of radiation at higher surface temperatures. •Study on the effect
of forced convection on the heat transfer from a cylinder under variable air velocities conditions. •Study of the effect of forced convection on the
heat transfer with different geometrical arrangement of 4 heaters (cylinder) such as parallel, perpendicular, triangular, square, quinconce lay-out

THERMAL RADIATION AND NATURAL CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER APPARATUS
This training unit has been designed to investigate the most important phenomena concerned to the thermal radiation and the natural convection
are concerned. To give a complete knowledge of these phenomena, the group allows the variations of both the pressure inside the test chamber

and of the radiant body temperature. The electric power given to the heating body is controlled by means of a optional regulated power supply.
Three thermocouples are placed in the test vessel to collect the environment, the wall and the heating body surface temperatures. The heater
has cylindrical shape and its orientation can be easily turned into vertical or horizontal position through a simple device, so permitting a wider
field of tests. A Bourdon vacuum gauge fitted on the unit measures relative pressure from 0 bar to -1 bar and a manometer allows the
measurement of relative pressure from 0 bar to 1.6 bar. The vacuum pump mounted on the unit gives the vacuum conditions down to less than
0.01 m bar and it is possible to fill the test vessel with air to permit investigation up to 1.6 bar relative. Experimental tests: •plotting of the natural

TRAY DRIER
Industrial driers consist often in hot air stream passing over a tray
where wet materials are held.
Tray driers are typical batch driers consisting of a rectangular
chamber of sheet metal containing supporting racks. Each rack
carries a number of shallow trays which are loaded with the
material to be dried. A stream of heated air circulated over the
stack of trays.
This type of drier is used in small-scale and pilot plant scale
operations mainly to get dry fruits and vegetables.

The heating plant trainers have been designed to demonstrate

This plant is equipped with a full range of circulation pumps to realize the following circuits: •Heat distribution with single pump; •Distribution with

the plant consists of measuring devices for single or total flow and for circuit pressure. The group is equipped with 7 pipes with increasing

This plant makes it possible to study the operation, water distribution and mixing in heating plants by means of three-way and four-way mixing
valves.
Water flows in the different circuit branches are clearly shown by instantaneous indicator instruments.
Hot water is produced by a unit with resistors, whereas the plant thermal load is simulated by a water-water heat exchanger.
The unit is supplied on a wheeled frame for easy transport inside the laboratory.

THERMAL ENERGY TRANING UNIT
This training unit is conceived in order that students can practice with a typical solar thermal energy collection and storage systems.
The purpose of this training unit is to make practice with the assembling, start-up and control of a typical solar thermal energy collection and
storage systems. Two types of flat solar thermal collectors are provided (one without a glass cover and the other with a glass cover), whose
characteristics will be compared with each other. A thermal storage tank is provided, in order to store thermal energy from the solar thermal
collector and deliver it later, when the sun will be no more shining.
The students can observe the effects of the variation of fluid flow on the Delta T of the solar thermal collector, on its power output and on its
efficiency, at different irradiation levels. A PC will help in recording measured values, drawing Delta T - Efficiency charts and calculating the
maximum power which may be generated at the desired temperature.
The charts of the different types of panels can then be compared with each other. Once defined the characteristics of a solar thermal collector,
the PC will chart the power that it will be able to generate at different hours on certain days, as solstices and equinoxes, and calculate the total
annual energy production, also taking into account the frequency of diffused light conditions (cloudy sky) of a certain location.

The knowledge of constructive technologies together with thermodynamics basics are a fundamental
qualifying element.
To answer this need, we have prepared a list of typical components used in thermal plants, accurately
sectioned and painted in all the parts in contrasting colours to outline the functions, the fluids, and
the materials of each piece of equipment in accordance with a suitable colour code.
The components sectioned are all original as used in industry and they can be considered as a
connection between school and industry, allowing the student to get first hand knowledge of industrial
technologies in a simple, rapid and very effective way.
Great care has been given to quality and to every minimum detail when producing our sectioned
components. We are convinced that this makes them indispensable elements in the acquisition of
technical knowledge and of the greatest didactic value.
Each sectioned unit is supplied, when requested with its full code as shown in the following pages,
complete with the BTC option
The BTC option consists of a base board on which the component is fitted, an explanatory plate
showing a synthetic description of the component itself and of its field of use together with clear
picture with part list that greatly increases the educational validity of the unit.
It also results as an important aid in technical drawing and design.
A dust cover protects the sectioned components when not in use.

The Coppus RL turbine is a single stage impulse type turbine with power up to 60 HP. Two row velocity stage rotor and a row of stationary
reversing blades between the two rows of rotating blades.
The rotor is enclosed between the turbine cover which contains the steam inlet connection, and the turbine casing which contains the steam

The heat exchanger is a device in which two fluids, flowing in it, exchange heat through a solid boundary or surface. The rate of heat exchange
between the hot and cold stream is determined by the fluids’ physical properties, flow rates, temperatures and by the surface separating the
two streams.
The basic rule for piping at all heat exchangers is: fluid being heated shall flow up while fluid being cooled shall flow down. This can also be

Gas turbine engines power most modern passenger and military aircraft: they are also called jet engines. The simplest type of gas turbine is the
