SIMPLE SENTENCES (ПРОСТИ ИЗРЕЧЕНИЯ)

A simple sentence has the most basic elements that make it a sentence: a
subject, a verb and a completed thought.

Joe waited for the train.

"Joe" = subject, "waited" = verb

Ex. 1 Read the pairs of simple sentences. Then use the linking word in brackets
to join them.

1. I was hungry.
I made myself a sandwich. (so)
I was hungry so I made myself a sandwich.
2. They rushed to the hospital.
They were too late. (but)
They rushed to the hospital, but they were too late.
3. I cooked dinner.
I washed the dishes. (and)
I cooked dinner and I washed the dishes.
4. I will go shopping.
I will go camping. (or)
I will go shopping or I will go camping.

COMPOUND SENTENCES
(СЛОЖНИ СЪЧИНЕНИ ИЗРЕЧЕНИЯ)

A COMPOUND SENTENCE has two or more simple sentences joined


together with a linking word. Some linking words are:

 and (и): to add points:


They play traditional instruments and sing songs.
 but (но): to show contrast:
We were lost in the woods, but my brother had a map in his backpack.
 so (така, така че): to show result:
There are a lot of dishes to try so you never feel hungry.
 or (или): to show choice:
We can go out or stay in.
