I. TOPIC
Information Literacy
II. ABSTRACTION (content)

Literacy - traditionally defined as the ability to read and write.

- the ability to assess, comprehend, and analyze contexts depending on a certain field (Modern definition).

Information – are data, facts and opinions conveyed about a certain topic or idea.
- is like a double-edged sword. It can be used as a weapon to advance, but information you give out may also be used against
you.

Information Literacy- the reader can identify what the information is for, were to find it when needed, and how to evaluate it.
- this requires assessing and thinking skills in acquiring and evaluating information.
- this focuses on the textual analysis and research skills of a person.
Importance of Information Literacy
1. Makes us more efficient in learning/ absorbing information.
2. Helps us recognize misleading, out-of-date, or false information.
3. We are able identify what is real and relevant not just for school but also for life and society.

III. REFLECTION (self-applied learning)

From studying this topic, I have learned that I have to be careful and keen-eyed to all information online because not
everything in the internet is true. I have to check multiple times whether my source is reliable and up to date, to avoid false-
information.

Aside from that, I have also learned to be responsible of all things I share online to avoid spread of misinformation. The
lack of Information Literacy will not just affect my performance in school. This can also have a great impact in my daily life.
If I am not informed or if I believe in fake news, I most certainly will be ignorant to current events and not survive during this
pandemic.

IV. INSIGHTS (new knowledge acquired about the topic)

Information Literacy, along with Media Literacy and Technology Literacy are all important in our daily lives. Aside
from learning, being literate with these three aspects can help us adapt and understand in the never ending change and diversity
of society, across media and technology. With these three, we will be able to achieve Global Literacy by being responsible
citizens, or in a much larger scope, responsible human beings.
