1. Define Aesthetics. Who gets to decide about the quality of artwork?

Is it the person who

experiences it, the artist who creates it or the critic? Explain your views.

Aesthetics
Aesthetic can be defined theory of beauty or in broader sense it is philosophy of art. It is positive
or artful appearance of a thing or a person. The purpose of art is to embody or communicate
emotions and ideas, which cannot be translated through language or writing.

Quality of Artwork

Art should make us enjoy all objects of awareness, whether “pure aesthetic” or moral. In fact,
the term “aesthetic” could be used in all cases, rejecting the idea that there are some to authorize,
using the word just to apply to surface or formal features— the artwork as a thing in itself. Art is
not the only object to draw interest of this pleasurable kind: hobbies and travel are further
examples, and sport yet another

The question is who is to decide the quality of art work, There is no universally agreed answer,
some would say the purpose of art is to make our environment pleasant, that makes us feel good,
but lot of people like art to determine its value. There are various traditions of creating art, and
artists of those tradition can evaluate it as a part of their tradition. Professional opinion counts as it
takes training to how well a piece of art maintains. But I think there is a universal and timeless
quality to art beyond what a community of artists may define it to be.

In this perspective, art can be evaluated by how well the art is used, the art language draws its
own tradition, and communicates to the desired audience. That audience may be common people
with only basic art language comprehension, or it may be people who have spent years learning
artistic languages, and great are needs to have something to offer both audiences. Great art seems
to have the quality go beyond limits of the tradition is based on. Even you don’t understand it
fully, you just know what it has lot to say. This is how, we can judge great art to some extent.

Art Ciriticism

The art criticism was biographical and sociological, taking into account the conceptions of the
artist and the history of the traditions within which the artist worked. Egoism about virtue is the
view that to judge an action or trait virtuous is to take pleasure in it because you believe it to
serve some interest of yours. Then literary criticism grew up: the Critics regarded what could be
gleaned from the work of art alone as relevant to its assessment, but their specific position
received a much-discussed philosophical defense. The design or intention of the artist is neither
available nor desirable as a standard for judging the success of a work of literary art. It was not
always available, since it was often difficult to obtain, but, in any case, it was not appropriately
available.
