introduction

In this report I am going to look at the operation, choice of materials and production of the Bosch
GBH 20-20. I am going to do this by reverse engineering.

Every week I was going to perform a task and record it in this report where it becomes clear what
the operation, material selection and production of the Bosch GBH 20-2 has been.

For this report I mainly used the textbooks and the online teaching materials, but I also received a lot
of help from teachers and fellow students.

This report is intended for technical readers interested in the operation, choice of materials and
production of the Bosch GBH 2-20.

Summary
This report finds out what is nesesery to design a drill.

In task 1 I first looked at the product from the outside and thought about why this product was
designed this way and what the vision of the manufacturer was. After that I took the product apart to
see what kind of parts are inside the product and what the function of these parts are.

In task 2 I made an input-output scheme and a function tree. With the function tree you get a good
picture of what the main and sub functions are. With the input-output scheme you get a good
picture of the matter, energy and information the drill needs to function properly. The input-output
scheme also gives a good picture of what kind of matter, energy and information comes out.

In task 3 I made a diagram of the estimated material choices and production techniques of the parts.
With the help of CES edupack I have worked out three of these parts completely.

In task 4 I worked out how the power of the product works. In task 4 I also mapped out the different
transmissions and connections.

In task 5 I made an isometric sketch, monodrawing and VLS diagram of the switch that allows you to
switch between chiseling and drilling.

In task 6 I have mapped out who the interested party is and what the requirements and wishes of the
interested party is.

In task 7 I made a program of Requirements and wishes which makes it clear what the Requirements
and wishes are and how they are tested.
conclusion
The objective of the research was to find out what is involved in the design of a drill.

After investigating the functions and checking the interested party with their requirements and
wishes. I found out that the client wants to sell a tapping drill that is easy to use, as light and compact
as possible, has enough power to easily make holes and is as recyclable as possible.

Is the impact drill easy to use?

At the beginning of the task class we had to analyze the product. During the analysis I could see that
the impact drill is easy to use. There is an on/off button on a switch to switch between drilling and
chiselling and the rotary mechanism of the drill head. These three actions are all easy to operate. This
makes it easy for the average person to drill and chisel holes.

Is the impact drill designed as light and compact as possible?

During the analysis of the materials I was able to find out why they had chosen certain materials. I
found out that they had also thought about the price of the product when making their choice.
During the analysis of the product I could see that the internal parts were all made as compact as
possible. The housing of the product also connects directly to the internal parts so there is no
unnecessary space.

Does the impact drill have enough power to easily drill holes?

On the sticker on the outside of the product I could see how much power the impact drill produces. It
has a stroke energy of 1.5J and a speed of 3900 rpm. With this stroke energy and rpm it is very easy
to drill and chisel holes.

Is the product recyclable?

I have been able to find out if the product is recyclable when examining the material choices. Most of
the materials they have chosen are easy to recycle. The designers have taken this into account. But
the product is not 100% recyclable
Problem posing
In 2000, Bosch developed the impact drill called GBH 2-20. The Bosch GBH 2-20 has been developed
in such a way that it can switch between drilling and chiselling. Because the Bosch GBH 2-20 can
switch between these two modes, it is widely used in construction but also for personal use.

The Bosch GBH 2-20 uses a power cable. With this cable it can generate enough energy to drill and
chisel with sufficient force. Because the Bosch GBH uses a power cable, you always need a power
network nearby. The length of the power cable is 2 meters so you have a limited range with the
impact drill. In order to make the Bosch GBH 2-20 more user-friendly, they are searching for a way to
not need an power network nearby in order to function.

Preconditions:

1. The new product must be able to drill and chisel holes in concrete, wood and steel.

2. The new product may not weigh more then 3KG.

3. The new product must be easy to operate.

4. The new product should look attractive.

5. The new product must be able to produce a speed of 3900 rpm and a stroke energy of 1.5J.

6. The new product must be able to switch between drilling and chiselling.

7. The new product must work without a power cable.
