SPECIFICS: ORDER OF RESEARCH PAPER PARTS

Title page: For format related aspects, check Reference Book 2 in MV (i.e., APA
manual). In Chapter 2 Paper Elements and Format, you will find Section 2.2.
Student Paper Required Elements.

There you will find what you need to format that page. In addition, as you will see, even
if your paper will not be published, instructors can request a running head if deemed
desirable.

We will indeed request it. Thus, here is a clear, short tutorial on how to insert it:

Just in case, you may also refer to Figure 2.2 (to see a sample student title page) and to
Figure 2.1 (to see a title page with a running head).

Abstract: Make sure that it does not exceed 250 words.

Introduction: It must have 3 clearly identifiable moves.
Literature Review: Irrespective of your format choice [(1) Title + no introduction +
body + conclusion; (2) Title + no introduction + body + The Current Study; (3) Title + introduction
with thesis statement + body + conclusion; (4) Title + introduction with thesis statement + body +
The Current Study; (5) Title + thesis statement only + body + conclusion; (6) Title + thesis
statement only + body + The Current Study)], sub-headings must be present in the body.

Methodology: Each main part must have its sub-heading:

o Participants and Setting (also known as Participants and Instructional
Context)
o Materials
o Procedures (also referred to as Design and Procedures)
o Data analysis
Results and Discussion (or Results first and then Discussion)
Conclusion
References
Appendix: The start of this section is the first appendix itself: it is the only
section without a heading.
o For you, it will consist of the data collection instrument(s) that you
administered (not images of the online version but the instrument in its
editable format).
o Each appendix will appear on a separate page with its corresponding label
(e.g., Appendix A Interview protocol) followed immediately by the actual
instrument.
o Thus, in your methods section, you can refer readers to the actual
instrument when first elaborating on it. Example: To elicit learners’
attitudes toward the quality of the training materials, a survey was
administered (cf. Appendix A).
