ACOUSTIC ANALYSIS

I’m invited to the party of my girlfriend’s father and him twin, they are celebring theirs
sixty. After get off the train, I get out the railway station. My girlfriend picks me up and we are
going directly to the party, ready the dance all the night ! She is driving on the ring road, we are
crossing a neighbourhood, we are taking a last pathway and we arrive to the property. It’s a country
house with green frontages and with a luxuriant vegetation. We get off the car and we come inside
the house to take part in the party.
The entrance is done by bay windows and we arrive directly in the living room. We are
overwelming by an un ambient unpleasant noise where conversations are mix between peoples
right there, people off the other side and some last conversation’s fraction. This living room is far
away an acoustic confort, there is a lot off destructive interference. The living room is close to
resonate. It’s because of a too high reverberation time due to the shape’s room, the size’s room,
five walls and furnitures materials.
The living room looks like a shorten square of 6 by 6 meters but its height vary between
2.1 meters and 4 meters because of the peaked roof. There is a wonderful wood truss but the global
room volume is too big for furnitures’s quantity. Add to this, the gypsum ceiling, gypsum walls and
bay windows have acoutic property very reflective. Hopefully, one of the wall have an openning
which enable us to go to the kitchen, like the sound. Without that, I can’t imagine how the living
room can be painful for our ears. The time progress, the party continue and we finish by go to our
bed in the morning.
When we wake up, parents are awake, they said good bye to theirs friends which had left.
To my great surprise, when I go in the living room, my unpleasant feeling about the night before
is gone. Conversation are clears anywhere we are and I don’t need to raise the tone to be
understanding. Today, the acoustic is nice and pleasant. The music, not too high, is enjoyable for
ears.
Finally, the living room’s problem it’s probably because of the furnitures’ layout, but also
because of the sound frequency and the sound intensity. Going forward, for an acoustic confort in
all situations, a correction acoustic according to room’s function is necessary. For futur family’s
parties, coachs must be placed along walls and bay windows to reduce sounds relfection and sounds
reverberation. And when they will be not too many, they can use the current layout, with coachs
in the middle of the room. After have advise them about my analysis, I thank them and with my
girlfriend, we said good bye and we hit the road to go to Rennes.
