The ideal electric car

In the last decade, the number of consumed electric cars has tremendously increased,
with the total number of electric autos exceeding 5 million in 2018, which was a 63% boost year
to year. (International Energy Agency, 2019). The reason for this increase is electric cars have
many advantages compared to gas-powered autos like being quieter, more environmentally-
friendly and more comfortable to maintain. Furthermore, many cities like Madrid, Paris or New
York have started banning gasoline car from operating (Bendix, 2019). Thus, the alternative for
the old-traditional autos is electric cars. This essay aims to propose some technologies that will
make electric automobiles become the perfect vehicles to drive in the future.

According to Automotive Training Centres, energy-storing panels will become a new

trend in the auto-manufacturing industry (2013). Despite being around for decades, electric cars
are still lacking in speed and endurance because of the limited electrical capacity in their battery.
Furthermore, battery packs are still excessively heavy despite developments in battery efficiency
by using alternate sources other than lithium-ion such as lithium-nickel-cobalt-aluminium,
lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt or lithium titanate (Dinger et al., 2010). Thus, using multiple
panels that can store electricity on the car’s doors, roof and hood can be the solution to those
problems. The panel is consist of a smooth carbon fibre containing nano-batteries and
supercapacitors (Automotive Training Centres, 2013). Those components allow cars to store
much more energy and travel at a further distance. Moreover, not only are the energy-storing
panels much lighter and efficient compared to a regular battery, but they are also better than
ordinary panels which can only protect other components.
Over the last decade, there have been lots of developments in wireless technology, and in
the future, wirelessly charging an electric car could be possible. Wireless charging technology is
based on the principles of magnetic inductance and magnetic resonance (Fisher et al., 2014).
When currents are running through a coil, it induces a magnetic field. There will be a generated
current if another coil is closed to the magnetic field; as a result, the power is transferred
wirelessly. This technology has many benefits compared to the traditional charging way. Firstly,
people do not have to carry the charging cable anywhere they go. Most of the electric cars
nowadays rely on wires that are excessively big and bulky, which is very inconvenient.
However, with wireless charging, this is not a problem to be worried. Additionally, the wireless
charging technology is immune to dirt and water. Therefore people can utilize much space for
the charging purpose. For example, charging areas can be installed in the garage, in the parking
lot, or even the parking space on the road. People can charge their cars anywhere that they park;
thus, running out of power will be a thing in the past.

With the development of 5G networks, self-driving car technology will be better than
ever, and this would be a great addition to an electric car. Nowadays, there are numerous
problems caused by driver errors, such as traffic jams or traffic collisions. Nevertheless, with
driverless cars, they are much safer and more dependable to travel in. A self-driving vehicle can
consist of radar, cameras, radio antennas and ultrasound to operate on the road (Madhavan,
2019). These components work in conjunction with each other to provide the safest experience to
the passengers. Moreover, Madhavan also mentioned 5G networks allow cars to communicate
with other vehicles, infrastructures or even pedestrians. For example, the communication
between vehicles, or V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle), can allow self-driving cars to exchange such
information like route, position or potential dangers on the road. Thus, there will be fewer traffic
accidents and road injuries caused by traditional manual driving.

In conclusion, electric cars would be better if there are better technologies implemented
than now. Using energy-storing panels will help to increase the power capacity, therefore making
electric autos travel further and faster. Besides, wirelessly charging will be much more
convenient than cable charging. Finally, using the self-driving car technology will provide a
better and safer experience for road users.
