We are living in this planet with seven billion people and we can’t avoid to socialize and

interact with one another, where we are considered as one family. But are we aware of

what we are doing towards other people? Are we aware that our certain actions could

affect the people around us? These questions are essential to the everyday lives of

each individual. We tend to live our lives to the fullest but neglect to see the other side

of life. Life isn’t about

Here’s a famous quote of Goethe about his idea of responsibility:

"It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to

make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration; I

can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides

whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-

humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as

they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”

It simply means that each of us as a human being have the right to decide on

what path he will choose and the result of this depends, it can make your life depressed

or blissful. It is in his actions that can affect the other people even if in our small actions.

Showing responsibility to other person may also boost confidence to the person you as

helping because they know that someone is believing in his own capabilities. There is

no limit in giving our responsibility. It is only that our mind and action that limits it.
There are a lot of current issues we are facing of this and one example would be

poverty. Here is a sample of what Pope Francis had said to his Jesuit students during

their meeting:

“The times talk to us of so much poverty in the world and this is a scandal. Poverty in

the world is a scandal. In a world where there is so much wealth, so many resources to

feed everyone, it is unfathomable that there are so many hungry children, that there are

so many children without an education, so many poor persons. Poverty today is a cry.”

Another example would be on my personal life. As the second child of my family, as a

friend and as a stranger, I have a big responsibility to my younger sister to perform

because it is the blabla of nature. If she will ask me to help her in her assignment, of

course I should help her not just because it is my obligation but to think that she needs

help in her studies and with this I can also mold her and also being responsible to the

other. As a friend,

Alam ba natin an gating mga reponsibilidad bilang isang nilalang? Bago ko sagutin ang

So for me, responsibility is one of the most important characteristics of a human

existence. It is responsibility for one’s actions that makes us human. It is a normally

accepted idea that the person who is not taking responsibility for what he has done

should not and cannot be trusted, that he is not truly a human being.

But I don’t live in a world in which there is but one single ‘first comer’; there is always a

third party in the world: he or she is also my other, my fellow. Hence, it is important to

me to know which of the two takes precedence (Levinas 1998: 104).

"It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life
