Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

Baineann an Polasaí le:
An Bord Bainistíochta, An Príomhoide, tuismitheoirí, scoláirí agus a múinteoirí, riarthóir na ríomhairí

agus na múinteoirí.

Cúis:
 Ionas gur féidir le gach dalta leas éifeachtach, oideachasúil a bhaint as an idirlíon.

 Ionas go mbeadh tuiscint ag na daltaí ar shábháilteacht idirlín agus conas an t-acmhainn a

úsáid ar bhealach dearfach, cuí agus feiliúnach.

 Mura gcomhlíontar polasaí na scoile mar sin tarraingeofar siar an phribhleíd agu gearrfar

smachtbhannaí cuí –mar atá leagtha amach san AUP.

 Déanfar athbhreithniú rialta ar an PUI. Sular síneofar é ba chóir an AUP a léamh go

cúramach lena léiriú go dtuigtear agus go nglactar le coinníollach na húsáide.

 The aim of this Acceptable Use Policy is to ensure that pupils will benefit from learning

opportunities offered by the school’s Internet resources in a safe and effective manner.

Internet use and access is considered a school resource and privilege.

 Therefore if the school AUP is not adhered to this privilege will be withdrawn and

appropriate sanctions –as outlined in the AUP will be imposed.

 It is envisaged that school and parent representatives will revise the AUP as necessary.

Before signing, the AUP should be read carefully to ensure that the conditions of use are

accepted and understood.

 That the school internet is readily available to the school community when needed.

 That the school community understand the ways in which the school internet can be harmful,

illegal if used in an inappropriate manner.

 To direct students about how to engage in internet research and effective internet searching.

 That students will be able to communicate electronically, in an efficient, polite and proper

manner.

Straitéis na Scoile/ Strategies:

The schools employs a number of strategies in order to maximise learning opportunities and reduce

risks associated with the Internet. These strategies are as follows;

content with students. Each student must have the written permission of a parent/ guardian to

use the school internet. Parents/ guardians will sign the policy on behalf of Junior and Senior

Infants. Students from 1st- 6th class will sign the policy along with their parents/ guardians.

World Wide Web

 Students will not intentionally visit Internet sites that contain obscene, illegal, hateful or

otherwise objectionable materials.

 Students will be familiar with copyright issues relating to online learning.

 Students will use the Internet for educational purposes only.

 Students will never disclose or publicise personal information.

 Downloading materials or images not relevant to their studies, is in direct breach of the school’s

acceptable use policy.

 Students will be aware that any usage, including distributing or receiving information, school-

related or personal, may be monitored for unusual activity, security and/or network management

reasons.

Ríomhphost

E-mail

 Students will use approved class email accounts under supervision by or permission from a

teacher.

 Students will not send or receive any material that is illegal, obscene, defamatory or that is

intended to annoy or intimidate another person.

 Students will not reveal their own or other person’s personal details such as addresses or

telephone numbers or pictures.

 Students will never arrange a face –to- face meeting with someone they only know through

emails or the internet.

 Students will note that sending and receiving email attachments is subject to permission from

their teacher.

 If any spam email is received it will be reported immediately to the teacher.

 Students will only have access to chat rooms, discussions forums, messaging or other electronic

communication fora that have been approved by the school.

 Chat rooms, discussion forums and other electronic communication forums will only be used for

educational purposes and will always be supervised.

 Usernames will be used to avoid disclosure of identity.

 Face – to face meetings with someone organised via Internet chat will be forbidden.

Cyber-Bullying

Harassing, flaming, denigrating, impersonating, outing, tricking, excluding and cyber-stalking are all

examples of cyber-bullying. Such bullying will not be tolerated in Scoil Bhaile Nua. We advise the

following:

 Our students must not send messages or post comments or photos with the intent of

scaring, hurting, or intimidating someone else. Engaging in any online activities

intended to harm (physically or emotionally) another person, will result in severe

disciplinary action and loss of privileges

 In some cases, cyber-bullying is a crime

 Remember that your activities are monitored and retained

 Although one incident of aggravation is not usually understood as bullying, an act

such as a hurtful group text or the posting of a photograph online that could cause

offence can be defined as bullying and will be treated as such. It is the

responsibility of every student to understand this.

 Children should be encouraged to talk to a parent or teacher if concerned about any

incident that might constitute cyber-bullying.

Gréasán Scoile

 Tabharfar deis do dhaltaí tionscadail, obair ealaíne nó obair scoile a fhoilsiú ar an nGréasán

ar líne.

School Website

 Pupils will be given the opportunity to publish projects, artwork or school work on the World

Wide Web in accordance with clear policies and approval processes regarding the content that

can be loaded to the school’s website.

 The publication of student work will be co-ordinated by a teacher.

 Pupils work will appear in an education context on Web pages with a copyright notice prohibiting

the copying of such work without express written permission.

 Digital photographs, audio or video clips of individual students will not be published on the school

website, instead photographs, audio or video clips will focus on group activities. Video clips may

be password protected.

 Personal pupil information including home address and contact details will be omitted from

school web pages.

 Pictures that are published on the school website will not include the child’s name or any child

wearing a name tag.

 Pupils will continue to own the copyright on any work published.

Suaitheantas pearsanta

Níl cead fón póca, i-pads, i-pods agus tablets a bheith ar scoil. Ní cheadaítear fóin póca ar

thurasanna scoile nó ag imeachtaí scoile eile. Tá mí-úsáid fón póca glan i n-aghaidh an polasaí úsáide

Mobile phones, tablets, i-pods and i-pads are not permitted in school. Phones are not permitted on
school tours or during other school events.

**Sa chás go bhfuil tionscnamh ar siúl mar chuid den obair ranga, beidh amannta áirithe ann a
thugtar cead do dhaltaí ríomhaire glúine a thabhairt isteach ar scoil. / Circumstances may arise
whereby as part of a school project, etc, children will be allowed to bring in a laptop.

Sanctions;

Misuse of the Internet may result in disciplinary action, including written warnings, withdrawal of

access privileges and in extreme cases, suspension or expulsion. The school also reserves the right

to report any illegal activities to the appropriate authorities.

Distance Learning

During times of school closure, teachers may communicate using a school email address with
parents/guardians or through the school website.
Teachers may also make use of educational platforms to aid communication and provide feedback
with pupils, such as Seesaw and video conferencing applications, such as Cisco Webex, as approved
by the Board of Management.
The school will seek parental/guardian consent before commencing with new applications.
During online learning the ‘Strategies’ (AUP, pg2) put in place by the school for school internet
usage will become the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
Parents/Guardians will be responsible for the supervision of the child during online learning and for
ensuring that appropriate filters/protections are in place on the devices used by the child.
Parents/Guardians must be available by phone in the instance where a teacher has concerns during
an online session.
While an online class is in progress, pupils will be expected to comply with classroom rules and the
school’s Code of Behaviour will be followed.
Recording of video conferencing sessions is prohibited.
