Part 1
How many words can you think of related to ‘hotel’?

Part 2
Read the text quickly and check which words in the text are the same as the words you
thought of. Don’t focus on the gaps in the text – just read for general understanding.

Part 3
Look at these words: ‘a change’, ‘a variety’ and ‘a difference’. What part of speech are they?
How do you know?
Describe the meanings of these words in no more than seven words: ‘a change’, ‘a variety’
and ‘a difference’.

Part 4
Read the first paragraph and decide which word – change, variety or difference – is the
correct answer for number 19, referring back to your definitions. Read the whole sentence;
don’t just stop when you get to the gap.

Part 6
Complete the gaps in the text with the correct word. Think about the meanings for the words
in numbers 22–24 as you answer the task. Remember to look at the whole sentence to see
what part of speech the word in the text is.

Part 7
Write about your school. In the text write about the size of your school, your subjects and
your classmates. Leave out six words and write them in the box.

Send your text to another student. They will write a meaning for your six words and then
write them in your text.
