PROFILE OF BAYUGAN AGUSAN DEL SUR

The municipality of Bayugan was former a sitio of Barangay Maygatasan, Esperanza.


Since it is mainly located along the national highway, most business activities and population
settlements were established within a short period. Bayugan became regular municipal of the
province of Agusan del Sur in 1961.

The municipality of bayugan is located in the northern part of Agusan del Sur. It is
bounded on the north by the municipality of Sibagat and the province of Surigao del Sur, on the
south by the Municipality of Esperanza, on the east by the municipality of Prosperidad and the
west by the municipality of Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte. Total population was 89,999.

The total land area of the municipality is 56,687 hectares, equivalent to 6.57 percent of
Agusan del Sur’s total area of 896,550 hectares.

Bulk of landmass of Agusan – Surigao Ecozone belongs to the province of Agusan del Sur with
the total land are of 896,550 hectares representing 47.11 percent total ecozone area.

The Agusan – Surigao Ecozone comprise of Provinces rich in resources including


minerals forests, marine, Agricultural tourism. There are rich sources including fishery products
owing to its numerous bodies of water like lakes and rivers, mostly the two (2) Agusan
provinces. They are not only rich sources of fishery and other supply power in the area and its
neighbouring provinces.

Climatic data shows that the area is geographically situated below the typhoon belt,
which falls under Type II climate. Bayugan has an average temperature of 24 0C, which slightly
varies throughout the year.
