EDU 201 #12

Nov. 29, 2020

I’m choosing this profession because I love to work with kids. In the beginning of my

education journey I was going towards becoming a nurse. I was taking classes and I had come to

notice that I was not happy. I knew that at the end of the day although as a nurse I would make

more money than as a teacher. At the end of the day, how much money I would make wouldn't

beat the happiness I would gain If I became a teacher surrounded by kids and their brilliant little

minds. I remember one of my teachers from middle school had come to inspire me to become a

teacher. Just the simple fact that he made learning so much fun, science became an easy subject

for me because of him and how he literally introduced me to my best friend ever since we have

had a friendship of 12 year so far. What I learned about myself is that I believe in the experiences

of the individual. I have always believed that you learn best by your own experiences and by

creative choice but not to mention that if someone needs help or advice I'm always there. As a

student I always felt like I had a choice in every subject and as well as motivation from my

teachers and it was a good balance, I believe so. I remember that my weakest philosophy was

perennialism which is to ensure that students acquire knowledge of these unchanging principles

or great ideas and “The function of the school is to educate the intellect” (Leahy,2009,p.44). In a

way it made sense I scored low because they also believe that the world and human nature

remained unchanged over the centuries, which they believe that the great ideas continue to have

the same potential for solving the problem of any era, when in all reality it’s not all true. There is

so much change going on in the world and in human nature, that new ideas are created to solve

new situations but that also doesn’t mean that old traditional ideas are not valid anymore they
just become modified to whatever situation there could be. My knowledge of historical events

has taught me that all the changes and Acts have had one purpose and its too provide education

for all regardless of race, income, and sex. I will make sure that no students feels like they are

being discriminated in any way, because in my classroom everyone will be taught that everyone

is to be treated equally regardless of the color of your skin, income status, and sex. It's sad to say

that although we have come a long way from our histories past because it was worse before,

there are still people that just can’t seem to surpass the idea that everyone should be treated with

respect. And if I believe that something is not right that is happening in our school system I

would like to believe that I will speak up and make sure that if there is something I can do, I will

make it right. Besides teaching my kids that everyone should be treated with respect I would

love to learn each and every one of the students to see what works best for them and what helps

them learn better. One thing that I have realized is that each student is different and we all learn

differently. For example I am one who learns better by working hands on and I like to look at

examples so I can get an idea of how to handle or do an assignment that may be needed. As well,

I would love to make learning fun for my students. Even if they are working on a subject they

don't like, they still enjoy in some way. In order for me to make these goals happen I need to

finish my Education career, build relationships along the way in hopes that I can get a job as a

teacher once finishing college, as well as try to get as much experience under my belt as

possible, become a student teacher, substitute anything that can help me get closer to my

teaching goal and just remember to not limit myself become confident and patience while

searching for a teaching job.
