The Twin Feijoas

Recount by Charlotte

I scratched around the fallen leaves, under our massive feijoa tree.
It wasn’t long before I found 4 perfect, fist sized feijoas, hidden
under piles of crispy, brown and golden leaves. I dropped them in a
little paper bag and skipped over to the tree to find more.

It was mid-april, during autumn, and lockdown. In autumn our
gigundo massive feijoa tree drops hundreds of juicy feijoas. We got
so many that we needed to sell them! So that’s exactly what we
did.

I crawled on my hands and knees, shuffling the leaves away to
hopefully find a couple more hiding feijoas. Eventually, I did!! I
snatched up the rather large feijoa poking out from under a pile of
leaves. As I picked it up, another came with it! They had grown
together! “Oh.” I mumbled, quite discombobulated.

I tugged and pulled, trying to get them apart. After all of that
tugging, I decided that Mum might like to see. I kicked off my
gumboots. They rolled halfway across the lawn, but I didn’t care.

Gripping onto the two morphed feijoas, I jogged to the kitchen. It
was warm, and Mum was baking. Yum!

“Mum, look what I found!” I said, tapping on her shoulder. Mum
turned around. “Look’s like you’ve found twin feijoas!” She replied,
reaching down her pocket for her phone to capture a picture.

So, I got a picture. But in the end Dad accidentally sorted it into a
honesty box bag, so I never got to eat it.
